Bonds and Relations | Episode 3 | To Know Him is to Love Him

Simply because you're associated with something, you kind of already have this affinity, this warmth, this leaning to it. Like think of a relative of yours. Here's an easy example. A relative of yours that's not particularly beautiful. Not all babies are cute. I'm sorry. Khadija is very cute. And they don't give you much hope. Like they're not rich and they're gonna give you a good payout when you trip up. But they're just your relative. They could even be a distant relative. How's that? Like not well-mannered even, not physically attractive, not rich, and you haven't even seen them except through a photo on WhatsApp, okay? From across the globe somewhere. Wouldn't you still feel closer to them than someone who you were not told is related to you? Right or wrong? That is just our nature. We want to feel associated. We want a sense of belonging. We want relationships and bonds for ourselves. And so that you take that to Allah, Azza wa Jal, though nothing is truly comparable to Him. Nothing can be compared to Him in reality. The greatest relationship in existence is the relationship between the Creator and His creation, right? The servant and His or Her Master, Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Isn't Allah closer to us than our jugular vein? Isn't Allah, Azza wa Jal, the only one that's with us in our sleeping moments and in our wakeful moments? In every wink of the eye, in every stride we ever took, in every pulse and beating of our hearts, He was with us there, Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
In every thought that crossed our mind, He was with us, Subhanahu wa ta'ala, with His knowledge, with His care. He was with us when we were afraid and He was with us when we got up in the middle of the night and He was with us when we felt broken and powerless and vulnerable. And He was with us when He saw us defy Him in that dark room, as one of the scholars said, and because He just cares more than anyone else would ever care about you, even though He knows about you, the blemishes that no one knows about you, what He did at that moment when you cared about everybody and locked the door and didn't care about Him watching over you, He still sent oxygen through that door for you so that you would still have an extension and make your tawbah and repent and redeem yourself. So there is no greater bond and relationship than between the human being and Allah Azza wa Jal. And so that is a reason to love Him, if we would but reflect. And I rushed through these first three deliberately, because the next two are what fall under the gist of what I was asked to speak about, which is one particular name of Allah, which is Al-Kareem, the Most Generous, Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.
