Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu Audhu Billahi Minash Shaitanir Rajeem Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen Wa La Ilaha Illa Allah Al Zalimeen Wa Al Aqeebatu Lil Muttaqeen Allahumma Salli wa Sallim wa Barakal Abdukal Rasulika Muhammadin Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Wa Ala Alihi Wa Sahbihi Wasallam Tasliman Katheera My brothers and sisters, May Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la bless you all and accept from you I know you've been sitting here for a really really long time May Allah accept every moment that you've spent here Fi Sabeelillah Say Ameen May Allah accept on behalf of Miftah, my brothers, the Waheed brothers, the local masjid, Mawlana Nabil, everyone that's here, Alhamdulillah, that organizes May Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la accept from all of them, all of the volunteers that are here, say Ameen I was listening to Mufti Abdur Rahman and honestly, I was immersed in what he was saying because when you're talking about that blessing of being in the companionship of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam that's not quite something we can really understand but at the same time, we really really long for it and I'm gonna tell you what the end of my talk is in the beginning the end of my talk, if any of you read the title, is actually a narration of Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu giving a khutbah after the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam passed away about a year after he passed away so that's the end of this talk but I want to build up to that moment with things that are probably very familiar to you already but I need you to put yourself in those shoes we talk about people that long for the companionship of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam people that had the companionship of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam people that knew what it was like to pray behind him people that knew what it was like to be with him and the crisis of identity when he died Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
what purpose do you even have at that point? what sweetness of life when the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam described himself that he saw Israfil Alaihi Wasallam with his lips puckered on the horn knowing that the day of judgment is simply he said I saw Israfil Alaihi Wasallam with his lips puckered already his eyes gazing at the throne of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala fixated like stars and he said how can I find any sweetness in life anymore? you ask these brothers and I know they're hurting over the death of Sheikh Abdul Rahim Rahimahullah Ta'ala what sweetness, what appetite do I have for life anymore? you lose someone that's deeply beloved to you and sometimes you feel how do I find any sweetness how do I find any appetite in life anymore? it's not the same anymore I've lost an appetite for this dunya imagine the companions of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam after they buried him if you spent a moment with him if you spent a day with him if you spent a week with him there's a crisis right now how do I get out of bed every morning? how do I get out of bed every morning? how do I go to Fajr? how am I going to attend the next Salatul Eid? the first Eid Khutbah without the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam have you ever thought about that? the first Taraweeh without him the first Ramadan without the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam the first this, the first that the first Hajj without him all of these memories when a person passes away what then of someone that had his companionship in this life? but imagine now Abu Bakr As-Siddiq Radiallahu Anhu I want you for the next half an hour to put yourself in the shoes of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq Radiallahu Anhu and see the world through his eyes for the next half an hour Insha'Allah Ta'ala
up until the moment that this address is actually about Abu Bakr Radiallahu Anhu was the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam's best friend his entire life and what a best friend to have Al-Ameen As-Siddiq the honest and trustworthy and truthful one and the man who confirms and ascertains and affirms the truth with his entire being in Abu Bakr what a best friend they were best friends because they shared the best of Akhlaq the best of qualities and characteristics and as soon as the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam received the message of revelation Abu Bakr Radiallahu Anhu said I believe you I know who you are I know exactly who you are say no more you don't have to give me a lengthy explanation you don't have to split the moon for me you don't have to move a mountain you don't have to turn Safa into gold you don't have to do anything else I know who you are I know you're a Prophet I know that your character has been divine all of these years and Abu Bakr Radiallahu Anhu goes and he recruits to Islam half of the 10 Mubashireen Al-Jannah other than himself half of those 10 promised paradise becomes the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam's greatest ambassador and continues to be his best friend his entire being for the next two decades is going to be trying to protect the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam literally taking a beating in front of the Kaaba defending the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam waking up from a coma and saying, where is Rasulullah? where is Rasulullah? take me to him, I need to see him protecting him with his full being in the Hijrah and happy to do so you talk about a man who loved someone else more than he loved his own life As-Suhba Ya Rasulullah
your companionship O Messenger of Allah your companionship walking around the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam in the Hijrah Abu Bakr Radiallahu Anhu in the Hijrah would be in front of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam then he'd be to his right, then he'd be to his left then he'd be behind him Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, what are you doing? he said, I'll think about an enemy perhaps coming from this direction so I go there and then I think maybe they're there so I go there, so I go there, so I go there everything is about protecting him putting his foot on a hole in the cave while the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam falls asleep in his lap and a scorpion drives itself into his foot and the tears of Abu Bakr Radiallahu Anhu falling on the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam but he doesn't even want to wake him up he'd rather a scorpion drive itself into his foot than wake up the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and disturb his sleep he will starve with the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam he will go on every journey with the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam every morning when I wake up, if I'm Abu Bakr I'm thinking how quickly I can get to his home and what are me and Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam doing today and when the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam speaks to the people you're not Abu Bakr, you know you're not Abu Bakr the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam says I, Abu Bakr and Amr went and did this I, Abu Bakr and Amr saw this I, Abu Bakr and Amr heard this the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam says about Abu Bakr and Amr they are my hearing and my sight anywhere you saw the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam you saw Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq your whole life for two decades revolves around this man and I take you to a moment that is familiar to you but again, because I want you to understand life through his eyes for a moment
Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu he said the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam stood up on the minbar so put yourself in Abu Bakr's shoes you're sitting in Masjid An-Nabawi right now you're Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq radiAllahu Anhu the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam just ascended the minbar are you there? mentally, I want you to be there and the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam starts to speak and he says, amma ba'ad, to proceed innallaha khayra abdan bayna al-dunya wa bayna ma'indahu takhtara zalika al-abdu ma'inda Allah Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam says Allah gave a choice to one of his slaves between everything in this dunya, everything this world has to offer and that which is with Allah and that slave has chosen that which is with Allah everyone sitting in the masjid thinks this is a generic khutbah but I know this man Abu Bakr's heart is in sync with the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam's heart Abu Bakr's opinion always matches the opinion of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam there were times that even Umar radiAllahu Anhu couldn't see things the way the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam saw them but Abu Bakr radiAllahu Anhu always saw things the way the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam saw them the greatest human being that the sun has ever risen or set upon that wasn't a prophet of Allah this man Abu Bakr and he's in sync with the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and he knows what the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam just said and Abu Bakr radiAllahu Anhu collected, wise, coherent, calm, intelligent breaks down into tears and everyone else in the masjid is looking at you you're Abu Bakr
Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is on the minbar and the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam loves you more than he loves any other person in the audience and there's this silence in the crowd and the only thing for a few moments that can be heard is your weeping Abu Bakr Abu Sa'id radiAllahu Anhu says we were all confused why is he crying so much? what's wrong with him? and the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam lets Abu Bakr radiAllahu Anhu cry and as Abu Bakr radiAllahu Anhu is trying to collect himself and there's this moment where you have an audience where everybody else is there but there are two men that are interacting and everybody else is an observer the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam on the minbar and Abu Bakr radiAllahu Anhu in front of him breaking down into tears over what appears to be a generic khutbah and the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam he goes on to say the person who has done more for me than any other person not just with their money that's part of it, spending suhbatihi with his friendship he's talking to everybody else while Abu Bakr is crying remember you're Abu Bakr and you're listening to the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam the person who did more for me than any other person with their companionship and with their money was Abu Bakr radiAllahu Anhu and the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam says if I was to take an exclusive friend other than my Lord it would have been Abu Bakr but the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam says but it's the brotherhood of Islam
and the love that bound us through that Islam and the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said all these doors to the masjid shut them close all the doors to the masjid except for the gate of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq radiAllahu Anhu everybody else is watching this conversation between the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam on the minbar and Abu Bakr radiAllahu Anhu sitting between everyone and crying and Abu Saeed says we understood later on that the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was talking about himself he was the one who was mukhayyar he was the one who was given the choice between this life and the next and none of us understood it except for Abu Bakr no one got it except for him but the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam just announced his death what's left of this life what sweetness do I still enjoy of this dunya and the irony subhanAllah that when the moment of the death of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam actually came who was the one man who could stand up collected, coherent in pain but with full perspective and guide the entire ummah through that moment it's Abu Bakr radiAllahu Anhu when the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam announced his death Abu Bakr was the only one crying in the masjid and when the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam actually died Abu Bakr radiAllahu Anhu was the only one who can stand up now in the masjid and help people make sense of what just happened and he says an kaana ya'budu muhammada inna muhammadan qadmat look whoever used to worship Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has passed but whoever used to worship Allah fa inna Allaha hayyun la yamut
Allah is ever living, He does not die and he recited the ayah wa maa muhammadun illa rasool qad khalat min qablihi ar-rusul Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was but a messenger of God other prophets and messengers have passed before him but if he dies are you going to turn back on your heels? again no one loved the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam more than him no one was in more pain than he was in those moments but he wanted to honor his best friend Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam because he knew that the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam would have wanted people to stay on course and stay the message don't jump ship now he wanted to be the mouthpiece of Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam in those moments and he was Siddiq he was truthful so he was always connected to the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam when he was alive and he was guided to channel that guidance of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam when he passed away and now for the next two years of Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu's life not only does he have to live through the pain of losing the center of his existence over the last two decades but he's got to help the Ummah keep its perspective and keep its clarity and what you see in his Khilafah is a dedication to making sure that we do everything the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam told us to do and we don't lose course we don't lose sight of the goal anytime a decision is brought into question Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu said the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam commanded us to do this we're going to do it we're not going to let we're not going to let go of one thing that the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam gave to us
imagine widespread apostasy after the death of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam talk about people who suddenly are denying something as fundamental as Zakah one group of people now following another person who's claiming Prophethood in Musaylim Al-Kadhab people apostating and Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu trying to hold the course now dear brothers and sisters fast forward a bit and this is what I want to talk to you about tonight think about a year later after the death of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam where the shock of it has somewhat worn off the pain is still there but again can you imagine the first Ramadan without the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam can you imagine the first Eid without the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam can you imagine the first celebration without him can you imagine the weight on Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu when he now has to stand up and give Khutbah in the same place the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam used to stand up and give Khutbah and so I come to this incredible narration and the words that Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu shares are not foreign to us they're words that you all would have heard they're actually very simple and fundamental messages but I want you to think about why Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu was inspired to share the following words the narration is in Muslim Imam Ahmad Rahimahullah Ta'ala the narration from a man by the name of Sulaym Ibn Amir Sulaym Ibn Amir Radhiallahu Ta'ala Anha was one of the Ansar who was present at Bayatul Aqaba As-Sania the second pledge of Aqaba meaning he's one of the first people to embrace Islam from Medina Allah blessed Sulaym Ibn Amir Radhiallahu Anhu to live over a hundred years
so he narrated many of the incidents that took place in the early days of Islam some of these fundamental points because he lived long enough to tell these stories of Ibn Amir Radhiallahu Ta'ala Anhu and one of these stories one of these narrations Qal Qatabana Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Ta'ala Anhu Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu stood up to give a khutbah and listen to what he says he says that Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Ta'ala Anhu said Qama Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Maqami Hatha Aam Al-Awwal the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam stood on this manbar just one year ago now it's not an anniversary of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam's death that's implied it's simply sometime after the death of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has passed that Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Ta'ala Anhu is standing up on the manbar and suddenly the memories are rushing to Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Ta'ala Anhu and he says one year ago the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was standing on this manbar and talking to us Tabaka Sulaim says Abu Bakr broke down into tears put yourself in his shoes one year ago I was sitting in the audience and the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was standing on the manbar and just announced his death and I was crying sitting in the audience looking up at him Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam recognizing that there was going to come a time that he wasn't going to be there anymore and now Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Ta'ala Anhu is standing on the manbar and put yourself in his shoes looking out at all of the companions looking out at the masjid a year later saying I remember the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam standing here
one year ago and he starts to cry now the words that he's going to share here in this authentic narration again are words that we can extrapolate from other ahadith of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam but I want you to focus on why Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Ta'ala Anhu will choose the following messages after the death of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and when fitna is starting to become spread in different capacities first and foremost Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Ta'ala Anhu says ask Allah to be spared means to be spared in regards to your health means to be spared in regards to your wealth means to be spared in regards to fitna in regards to trials and tribulations especially those that affect your religion because those are the worst trials and that's why the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam told when he asked the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam for a comprehensive dua he said ask Allah for ask Allah ask Allah to spare you, to protect you to grant you safety in this life and in the next, to spare you so Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu seeing what is happening to this Ummah of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam after the anchor is gone he's saying Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, ask Allah to spare you and he says Thalum yu'ta ahadun qat ba'da al yaqeen afdala min al aafiyah no one is given anything after certainty and faith that which is better than al aafiyah, to be spared now the profound wisdom of what Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu is saying is that certainty and faith
yaqeen is the greatest gift, it is tasdiq, it is affirmation of iman, affirmation of faith in your heart there's no greater gift than that and Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu he had that, complete certainty in faith so he's saying listen, there is nothing greater that exists in this life after having certainty and faith than to be spared from the trials to your faith so things are gonna get crazy Abu Bakr Radhiallahu Anhu has foresight things are about to get difficult and we're 1400 years later, things have gotten difficult ask Allah to spare you in regards to your religion ask Allah to spare you in regards to your being salallahu alaafiyah, it's comprehensive so he's saying first and foremost my nasiha to you, my advice to you is ask Allah to be spared listen, there is a lot that's happening around us right now ideological fitnah, spiritual, mental, physical fitnahs for some people in the Muslim world right now that are literally being persecuted for their faith all of these systems and ideologies and isms and things that are attacking the fitrah the natural disposition of who we are chipping away at our humanity and our functionality salallahu alaafiyah, may Allah spare us in regards to our dunya and in regards to our deen so he said nothing has been given to you that is greater than this freedom from trial ask Allah to spare you then he goes on and he says I enjoin you to be truthful people be people who speak the truth be people who act in truth be people who abide by the truth
this is not a religion of liars this is not a religion of people who act immoral this is not a religion of people who abandon their principles even if everyone else around them has abandoned their principles an as-siddiq who has assumed the leadership after al-amin the truthful one after the trustworthy one is telling you as an ummah, never become a liar عليكم بالصدق be truthful people and he said and this is of course taken from the hadith فإنه مع البر وهما في الجنة truthfulness and righteousness go hand in hand and truthfulness and righteousness will land you in paradise so I enjoin you first and foremost with certainty and ask Allah to be spared in regards to your faith ask Allah daily and nightly al-aafiyah be people of truthfulness never abandon your moral high ground never abandon your principles never abandon good character the epitome of good character is truthfulness and that's why out of all of the qualities of the Prophet ﷺ that he was praised for in regards to his character was his truthfulness and his trustworthiness if we as an ummah lose that and we become deceivers and liars people who cheat our families cheat our communities cheat our societies cheat with our wealth cheat with our business dealings that are slanderous with our language that disparage others in their honor then what right do we have anymore to being of the ummah of al-sadiq al-amin the truthful one the trustworthy one so I'm telling you to be truthful people because truthfulness and righteousness go hand in hand and they will land you in Jannah and he says
وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْكَذِبُ I enjoin you to avoid lying in every way do not be liars now some of you are saying well I don't lie you know I don't tell lies but the Prophet ﷺ said that it's enough lying for a person وَيَتَحَدَّثْ بِكُلِّ مَا يَسْمَعْ to spread everything that they hear how many times do you spread something, do you forward something do you retweet, do you share without verifying what you're sharing and what you're retweeting how many times do you repeat something to someone else without thinking about it and without verifying it أَن تُصِيبُ قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَ فَتُصْبِحُ عَنَ مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ and you'll hurt someone you'll wrong someone in ignorance but you will be from the regretful because of that so I enjoin you to be careful with lying never lie don't spread things without verifying that they are true because that in and of itself is a form of الكذب, a form of lying as well فَإِنَّهُ مَعَ الْفُجُورِ وَهُمَا فِي النَّارِ he said, lying and wickedness are like these two and they'll land you in hellfire they'll land you in hellfire so if you look at the logic of this speech so far, first and foremost certainty, and ask Allah to spare you secondly, do not abandon the moral high ground when you do that as an individual or as a community you lose the claim to الصادق الأمين you lose the claim to the أخلاق of the Prophet ﷺ the most hated qualities to the Prophet ﷺ were deception and lying never become a liar fact check everything that you do in life be careful with what you spread be careful with what you forward be careful with what you share you might hurt someone and Allah ﷻ will raise you amongst those who are the remorseful
but then here is the crux of the message Abu Bakr رضي الله تعالى عنه is seeing the disunity the seeds of disunity that have been planted in the Ummah you know when a loving parent speaks to their children they say, the only thing I want to see is you two together stop fighting, stop arguing the joy of their parents to see the siblings together to see their children together and upon righteousness the Prophet ﷺ said إِنَّمَا أَنَا لَكُم بِمَنزِلَةِ الْوَالَدِ وَعَلِّمُكُمْ I am to you like a father, I teach you not a father in the liturgical sense or in a clergy sense or in a way that we have to direct our prayers through him ﷺ to our Lord and that he taught this Ummah and he wanted to see this Ummah together we are his children in that sense and he hated to see division ﷺ he literally walks out of the Masjid when the Ansar Aus and Khazraj start to yell at each other again the Prophet ﷺ can't stand division so Abu Bakr رضي الله تعالى عنه says وَلَا تَحَاسَدُوا وَلَا تَبَاغَضُوا وَلَا تَقَاطَعُوا وَلَا تَدَابَرُوا وَلَا تَدَابَرُوا وَكُونُوا إِخْوَانًا كَمَا أَمَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى this is his message do not envy one another وَلَا تَحَاسَدُوا وَلَا تَبَاغَضُوا which is to hold grudges against one another this is so significant I want you to think about the way that you are living your life as it pertains to your believing family and the people around you and I want you to think about what this means to us as institutions do you know how much the shaitan hates when multiple islamic organizations come together to do something good
do you know how much the shaitan hates when imams sit together do you know how much shaitan hates when muslims reconcile and they abandon their disputes and they forgive each other do you know how much shaitan hates a harmonious masjid where people are focused on remembering Allah instead of disparaging each other do you know how much shaitan hates a peaceful and a tranquil home where people are at peace with each other and treating each other with dignity and love he hates that stuff because he knows that's the greatest distraction from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so Abu Bakr standing on the minbar of the prophet one year later is saying to one another is to want bad for a person because you believe that you are more entitled to a good that you think that they have don't desire the fall of any other muslim of any other person because the next step of that is which is backbiting gossip slander harming people in regards to their honor would one of you like to eat the dead flesh of their brother don't speak ill of one another don't hold grudges against one another don't hate one another all taken from the hadith of the prophet by the way, none of this is foreign to the hadith of the prophet but it's what Abu Bakr is choosing to hone in on in this address to the community one year after the death of the prophet so don't harm one another don't hate one another your prophet would not like that your lord does not like that and then he says don't boycott one another because the next phase of boycott is is to literally turn your backs on each other
you know when you walk into a gathering and you see that other person there and you try to make sure that you don't come face to face with them this is literally to give someone your back you want to make sure you don't come face to face so that you don't say salam to each other you want to make sure you pray on the other side of the masjid, you want to make sure that you don't enter into this gathering if you're there you want to make sure if they're at this wedding that I'm not going to be at this wedding, you want to make sure if they're there I'm not going to be there, all of these things this is tadabaru you desert one another you turn your backs on each other you avoid one another this is not befitting be brothers be sisters be brothers be sisters the way that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has commanded you to be brothers and to be sisters I want you to think about everything that you're experiencing right now in the community of believers and the fact that Allah azza wa jal has made unity one of the greatest prerogatives of this deen ... ... grab onto the rope of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala together and do not divide yourselves ... ... remember the favor of Allah upon you when you were enemies but Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala united your hearts ... by his blessing, by his favor brothers, sisters you became a community of believers you know when this ayah was revealed it was revealed about three years after the hijrah of the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam you know initially when communities are formed, people get excited people feel a sense of loyalty to one another people feel a sense of connection to one another maybe there's this excitement when the muhajireen are coming from Mecca to Medina you think about the anti-refugee sentiments in the Muslim world, it's heartbreaking
initially, look at your Syrian brothers and sisters when they were in Turkey initially yes, we love them and then somehow you have an entire political campaign that was just run about Syrians being sent home as a main political model, you think about anti-refugee sentiment even in the Muslim world, you think about the initial excitement and fervor that comes with the building of a masjid and the next thing you know, two people let their egos get out of hand and fought and then another masjid is being built around the corner sometimes initially there's that stoke of generosity and harmony but it takes a little bit of time and shaytan can work his way and start to plant seeds of hatred between you and so now the Meccans, the muhajireen have moved to Medina, they've settled in the homes of the Ansar and shaytan might play with the minds of some people and say, aren't you sick of them now? because that was the language of the hypocrites and Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Surul was the mouthpiece of the shaytan they've overstayed their welcome, now it's getting out of hand, now they've been here for too long fatten your dog and it will eat you, that's what he referred to the Muslims as the Muhajireen and amongst them our beloved messenger and Allah is telling you grab tight to the rope of Allah the Quran together, do not become divided remember the favour of Allah what I'm saying to each and every single one of you is that look at yourself as an agent of unity in the community never be the person that spreads mess or spreads gossip about anyone else, never be the person that pits two people against each other
when you see hardship in your home, take it upon yourself to be the one that reconciles that home never turn away from discord and disunity and say that it's not my business insert yourself as a person of islah, as a person who reconciles, because our Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam brought people together who otherwise were at each other's throats and now they were praying next to each other with their hearts and with their ranks united as one we need each other as a community, we need each other as an Ummah we need each other as families, we need each other to lean upon and that's what Imam Al-Shafi'i said I want to end with this that if the only surah to be revealed in the Quran was this surah it would be sufficient, does anyone know what that surah is? Surat Al-Asr one of the shortest portions of the Quran you read it when you're in a rush, right? when you're trying to get through something Wal Asr I swear by time as it is fleeting Innal Insana you guys know the surah, right? La Fi Khusr Verily man is in loss Illa Al-Ladhina Amanu Wa Amiru As-Salihat Wa Tawasu Bil-Haqqi Wa Tawasu Bistawr except for those who believe and who do righteous deeds and they work together in accordance with that truth and enjoying patience amongst each other never let the Shaytan play you and tell you you don't need the community, the masjid doesn't matter I can exist with my Islam alone we need each other we need to stay together just like the parents love to see the siblings together the children together
our Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is proud of us when we're one unit Allah Azawajal is proud of us when we're one unit be an agent of unity we live in a world where someone says something you don't like, block quick the world doesn't function like that your community doesn't function like that our bond together is sacred as Muslims and you have to listen to the words of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu addressing this community after we lost the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam stay together stay united do not hate one another, do not envy one another do not boycott one another do not turn your backs on one another be brothers and sisters as Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la commanded you we need each other for the sake of Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la and so I want you Insha'Allah ta'ala to take it upon yourself that if you have any hard feelings with any of your brothers and sisters go up to them and solve it squash it make Allah and His Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam proud, squash it if you're part of some WhatsApp group where people are talking about someone else defend your brother and sister and their honor and say it's inappropriate to talk about another person this way if you know two masjids that are at war with one another, I know Canadians are nice not like us Americans y'all are nice, y'all don't have any fitna in your masjids, right? no fitna in your masjids, right? sisters are like brothers is quiet solve it take two people to sit with each other that aren't sitting with each other make groups come together let's have some patience with one another Insha'Allah ta'ala as well and let's seek to make our Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam proud SubhanAllah I know my time is up
but because I put you in the eyes of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq radiAllahu ta'ala anhu, when he gave that khutbah and he had to have that weight I take you to his last moments Abu Bakr radiAllahu ta'ala anhu wakes up on the day of Monday and he says what day did the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam die again? it was Monday Abu Bakr how old was he when he passed away? he was 63 Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu knows he's 63 and it's a Monday and he asks to be dressed in the same cloth wrapped, shrouded just like the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and he lays back and he leaves this world oh Allah let me die as a Muslim and be joined and succeeded with and by the righteous and he leaves this world radiAllahu ta'ala anhu to join his beloved one Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam once again after having done his job with this ummah we are now extensions and torch bearers we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to keep us united as one unit may Allah let us all as we're gathered here today be gathered around the hold of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam on the day of judgment, say ameen may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allow us all as we're gathered here today to come to greet the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam while he's proud of us Allahuma Ameen Jazakum Allah Khaira Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
