What Yaqeen Institute is
Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research is a nonprofit research institute, established in 2016 to address contemporary questions about Islam through scholarship. Its name is the Arabic word for certainty.
The institute was founded by Dr. Omar Suleiman, who serves as its President and is an Adjunct Professor of Islamic Studies in the Graduate Liberal Studies Program at Southern Methodist University. Two of its co-founders remain in its leadership, as Chief Product Officer and Chief Financial Officer.
Its scholars have since published 282 peer-reviewed papers, alongside books, infographics and video series, in Islamic theology, Qur'anic studies, hadith, Islamic law, history, applied ethics and counter-Islamophobia research. Each paper is reviewed by scholars with traditional and academic training, and reviewers are assigned to a paper according to their expertise.
All of this work is published free of charge, without paywall or subscription, and the research papers, books and reports are free to read, download and share. Yaqeen Institute is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded by donations rather than by any government or institution, based in Irving, Texas, and it has published an annual report every year since 2017.
