Why all this? Why did Allah create such a great variety of things? Not one type of flowers, not two, not ten, not one type of fish, not two, not ten, not one...
There is so much color in the universe, there is so much greenery in the universe, there is so much diversity in the universe. Why all this? Why is it so vast?
Look at the skies, look at the moon, look at... I mean we can definitely do without all this. Ya Rabbi, why? What is the wisdom? Allah has a wisdom in everything He does, He is Al-Hakeem. And Allah says in the Qur'an,
Why? Allah is the one that created the seven heavens and the earth and all the commands and the decrees of Allah, this system and its magnificence. Why, Ya Rabb?
All this for you to know, for you to know how Allah is the most knowledgeable, Allah is the most capable, to know your value in My eyes. What is this ayah saying?
When Allah created all this, Allah loves the human being, Allah honors the human being. One type of food is not good enough for you, one type of flower is not good enough for you.
All this has one function, which is what? For you to know who I am, for you to know how much you mean to Me. And subhanAllah, if we want to understand that concept, I propose an exercise for you.
Do the following, select a person that you love, maybe your mother, maybe your spouse, and try this one time, just go to the store, spend $500, $300, $200, whatever you can, and buy flowers.
Can you imagine the amount of flowers you'll buy? Then go into the house and put the flowers everywhere. And can you imagine your mom coming back or your wife coming back? What is this?
And you tell her, see all those flowers, all their different types, they have one function. What is it? To show you how much I love you, to show you how much you mean to me.
All this has one purpose, for you to know what you mean to me.
All the things around us, everything that Allah created is a way to know Him, to know how much Allah cares about the human being. And Ibn 'Ata'illah As-Sakandari says,
I have known by the difference of the signs and the movement of the stars, that You want to make Yourself known to me in everything, so that I may not be ignorant of anything.
Dear Lord, now I know, now I know, that the variety of created things, the variety of states, all those wonderful things around, Your intent behind them is one thing.
One thing is You're making Yourself known to me in every single way, by all Your names and attributes, in such a way that I will not be ignorant of any of Your names or attributes.
This around us is nothing more than a stage where Allah shows us His beautiful names and attributes.
Allah is making Himself known to us in every single thing, so that we get to know Him and worship Him in every single possible way.
Knowing Allah in everything is a quest for one that loves and believes in Allah. Even by the way, in the sounds that are not as nice, you look, can you hear the helicopter and the airplane in the background?
And subhanAllah, look at this, there are many birds, there are many flowers and ducks and cats and their sounds don't disturb you.
But once something like that happened, a man-made, it's like it doesn't fit the picture, it's ugly, it's almost like bid'ah. Can you hear the sounds? You can tell the man-made sound and Allah's sounds.
Allah's sounds, they're variable, there's so many, they're all beautiful. They add and make the picture beautiful. You add a man-made something in it, ugly. The religion of Allah is beautiful. The worship, the way the Prophet (ﷺ) worshipped is beautiful.
The moment we add something from ourselves, it disturbs the picture, bid'ah. Innovation, innovation is bad in the religion. It's a beautiful picture, don't touch it, you're not an artist, you're not better than Muhammad (ﷺ).
Don't add anything there, leave it as it is. It's beautiful the way it is. And subhanAllah, we learn about Allah in every single thing.
I ask Allah to open the eyes of our heart so that we can see His attributes manifested in every single thing that happens in our life. And as such, love Him and worship Him in every single situation.
