Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Everyone, welcome back to Prayers of the Pious. There are some of the companions of the Prophet, salallahu alayhi wa sallam, who were so beautifully poetic with everything that they said and everything that they did. And one of those is none other than Sayyidina Ali, radiallahu ta'ala anhu, the son-in-law of the Prophet, salallahu alayhi wa sallam, the cousin of the Prophet, salallahu alayhi wa sallam, one of the first believers in the Prophet, salallahu alayhi wa sallam. And someone who was so near and dear to the Prophet, salallahu alayhi wa sallam, and who resembled the Prophet, salallahu alayhi wa sallam, in so many different ways. And this is a narration about the qiyam du'a, the nightly prayer of Ali, radiallahu ta'ala anhu. And it's a long du'a, but it's truly beautiful and poetic. That when he used to stand up, he used to recite, tamma nooruka fahadayta falaka alhamd, a'athuma hilmuka fahafawta falaka alhamd, wa basatta yadaka fahatayta falaka alhamd. It's a beautiful long du'a, and I'll read it in English. He said, Your light was complete, so you guided all praises to you. Your forbearance was great, so you forgave all praises to you. You held out your hand, so you gave all praises to you. Our Lord, your face is the noblest of faces. Your prestige is the greatest prestige, and your gifts are the best of gifts and the most wonderful.
Our Lord, you are obeyed, and you show appreciation. You are disobeyed, O Lord, and you pardon whomever you wish. You respond to one in hardship, and you remove harm. You heal the sick, and you deliver from difficulty. You accept repentance, and you forgive sins. The word of no one can compensate for your bounties, nor count the praises that you deserve. Subhanallah, it's a poetic du'a, and what I find to be the most beautiful of this du'a, and all of its beauty in this supplication, is that even at the end of it all, Ali radiallahu anhu understands that no matter how much you praise Allah, you will never fully be able to encompass the praise that he is due. And as long as you call upon Allah, and you call upon him and praise him for his creation, praise him for his mercy, praise him for his bounties, praise him for his forgiveness, Allah will not disappoint the one who calls upon him with that level of praise. And so, nothing can truly encompass the beauty of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, and the praise that he is due, and the gratitude that he is due, but nothing is supposed to encompass that praise and that gratitude and that beauty, because Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala exceeds all of those bounds. So may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allow us to praise Allah as beautifully as this beautiful man, Ali radiallahu anhu, and to not be let down, and to be guaranteed paradise, as this beautiful man, Ali radiallahu anhu, was guaranteed paradise. Allahuma ameen. Jazakum Allah khayran. See you all next time, insha'Allah. Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
