A Means of Purification | Daily Reminders

A believer must try to maintain a positive outlook by understanding that the affliction of illness and fever are brought on by Allah's permission, and will be lifted with Allah's permission. Understanding that it is all in Allah's hands will help us avoid falling into despair and instead help us focus on bettering ourselves and staying optimistic.

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you all. Abdullah Oduro. Many of us right now may know someone that is tested positive with the COVID-19
virus. Many of us may be tested positive ourselves and to be honest the majority of us probably don't even know because we haven't even got tested yet. But what's important for us to know is
the ones that we know that are tested positive or the ones that are tested positive themselves, maybe yourself, is to remain positive, to remain optimistic, to realize that it's in the hands of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and to also realize that any affliction that you face of the believer, meaning that they believe Allah, not only believe in him but they believe him and they believe the
Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam. Why is that? Because one of the sunan or the mannerisms of the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam is that when he would enter upon a sick person he would say
laa ba'sa tahoorun insha'Allah or laa ba'sa alayka tahoorun insha'Allah, either one. And it's important for us to understand the concept of the mediums that Allah has created.
When Allah creates something it is a medium of his actions upon creation. So when there is a sickness or a virus or bacteria that may affect you and give you a fever, it is a means for something
and it's important for you to remember that. And when your mind is consistently on Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to the best of your ability or your mind is in in tune with whatever happens to
you, you know that Allah is well aware of it and he permitted for that to happen for a reason that is the mentality, the behavior or the attitude of the mu'min. The Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam
entered upon a woman named Umm al-Sa'ib or Umm al-Musayyib. And this hadith is in Sahih Muslim where he entered upon her and he said ya Umm al-Sa'ib or Umm al-Musayyib, ma laki tu zafzifina.
He said ya Umm al-Sa'ib or Umm al-Musayyib, what is it with you? What's wrong with you that you are shivering? She said al-humma la barakallahu fiha. She said it is a fever. May Allah put no blessings
in it. The Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam responded with a beautiful response reminding her of everything that afflicts you it is for a purpose. He said la tasubbi al-humma fa innaha
tuzhibu khataya bani adama kama yuthhibu al-kiru khabatha al-hadidi. He said don't curse the don't curse the fever. Ya Umm al-Sa'ib, don't curse the fever. For verily that relinquishes the bad
deeds of bani Adam, the sons of Adam, you and me, just as a furnace relinquishes the alloy of iron.
Just as the heat from the furnace takes away the one that is not good quality from the good quality. It distinguishes it and it burns it away. So the fever of that which is physically that
we're facing the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam used another example to show that this heat that you are going through this trial that you are going through can be a means of purification
based on how you look at it. Based on your connection with the one who brought it to you and that's why you have to look at the bigger picture. There is another hadith in Bukhari
where the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam came to visit an old man as he would visit the sick because he heard he was sick he would visit him. So when he visited him he said laa ba'sa AAalayka tahoorun insha'Allah
Whereupon the man responded tahoorun humma tafooru ala shaykhin kabeerin
He said tahoorun, purification, this is a fever that is it is fire it is heat in the upon an old man wa tuzeeruhu al-quboorah
And the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam responded, fanaam ethan The Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam listened to this man when he told him tahoorun insha'Allah he walks in and he tells him look what you are facing insha'Allah is a
purification for you look at it as a purification the man responded tahoorun purification rather this is something that is burning inside of an old man and is bringing him closer to visiting
the graves meaning that this sickness is going to cause me to die and you're saying tahoorun and the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam responded fanaam ethan This is so profound because it's showing you your perception how do you view this
trial that you're going through when I'm coming to bring you hope your response is that of something that could be understood as negative and brings negativity so it's how you perceive it
when we see this virus brothers and sisters if it has afflicted us or those that we love or know how do we perceive it because you have to remember this virus in and of itself intrinsically
it does not harm nor benefit you it is with the permission of the one that has created it so it is a medium of showing something when this afflicts you or someone you know you have to be
mindful of the one who has created it and remember with his permission it can affect you and with his permission he can take it away so remember brothers and sisters let's stay focused on the
creator of all of these things and remember that when we turn to him and have good thoughts about him this is what will give us a good outlook in this life and if it may happen in the next
may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala cure all of the sick may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make any pain they face an expiation for them of any sin or shortcomings that they face in this life to where
it will be a clean slate for them in the next assalamualaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh
may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you all thank you
