It's this drive to find Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, to solve the mystery of creation. Why are we here? How should we live? And where are we going in the hereafter? What happens after death? All of these existential questions are now like immediate in my mind. I'm about 18 years old, and I grew up as a Christian, so naturally I was looking into the Bible for my answers. And as I was studying the Bible and reading some of the books that people don't usually cite, I found this inconsistency with the things I found in the Bible with what was being said in the church. There just didn't seem to be compatibility there. The message had been lost, and that what was being preached in the churches was not actually what existed and what was actually preached by Jesus and Moses, peace be upon them. So I had this inconsistency. I didn't feel right. It didn't settle in my heart. And then, so I was in the library. I was looking at all of the religions. I looked at Buddhism. I looked at various types of Hinduism. And then of course I learned about Islam. And I read the Quran in translation, of course. And it was just, I was fascinated by many of the verses that they just spoke to me in a very deep way. They explained things about my nature that I didn't really know, but then I noticed within myself that Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala is talking like to this deep part of your heart. And so it just, at some point I'm like, I have to go down to do this. I have to go to the masjid and I have to just do this.
And I was really nervous about it. But then I went down there, alhamdulillah, and all of the brothers there were very nice to me. And mashaAllah, I got connected with some very good brothers. We had halaqa. We started learning about the basics, about tawhid, and that Allah is one. And what does it mean that Allah is one and all the things that we believe and how we behave. And everyone, mashaAllah, was very nice to me and treated me very well. And then that settled me in the beliefs of Islam. And from there, I started my journey of learning. I took the hadith seriously that whoever travels the path of seeking knowledge, Allah makes easy the path for him to paradise. And so that started my journey of learning and that eventually has led to me where I am today and where I will continue to go in the future, bi-idhnillah.
