Abu Dharr Al-Ghifari radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu is one of the companions who spent a lot of time with the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam alone. And so one of the blessings we have from Abu Dharr radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu is that you have multiple narrations of personal advice from the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam to Abu Dharr radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu. Of course, he's known as the first one to use the greeting of Islam when he came and embraced Islam in Mecca. It's one of the first people to say As-Salamu Alaika Ya Rasulullah. And the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam to respond to him in the same way. So this incident and he's also of course one of those who narrated the hadith of Jubilee al-Islam. This incident, he says he and the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam were walking out and they looked at Uhud. So they're walking out and as they're taking the stroll, they look at the mountain of Uhud. And Rasulullah SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam used to love to use Uhud as an example, right? I mean, it's a very prominent mountain. If you're in Medina, you see it all the time and it really imposes its presence on you. So the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam as he's staring at Uhud, he says to Abu Dharr radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu, he says ma uhibbu anahu yuhawwalu li dhahaban yamkuthu AAindi minhu dinaran fawqa thalath illa dinaran ursiduhu ridayn He said to Abu Dharr radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu, I would not like to have this mountain turned into gold for me unless nothing of it, not even a single dinar remains of it for more than three days, except for that which is used for debt. Meaning the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam is saying, when I look at this mountain, I wish I could have it and spend it for the sake of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. I don't want anything of it of this dunya. Now you compare that to the hadith where the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam said that if the son of Adam was given a valley of gold, then he wouldn't say alhamdulillah for the valley of gold.
He would say I want another one and another one and another one until that person eventually dies and their mouth is full of dirt. So the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam is looking at Uhud and saying, I wish I could give that in sadaqah. I wish I could have this in gold and give it in sadaqah. Then the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam said, inna al-aktharinah humu al-aqalloon illa man qala bil-mali haa katha wa haa katha wa qaleelun ma'hum. The Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam said that those who have much in this world have little in the hereafter. SubhanAllah, al-aktharin, those who have much in this world have little in the hereafter. Except for those who spend their money like this and like this, meaning fee sabeelillah. They give in charity, right and left, fee sabeelillah, in the cause of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. And the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam said, qaleelun ma'hum, how few in number are they? Then, so the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam is making an example out of Uhud and speaking just to Abu Dharr radiAllahu ta'ala anhu. Then the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam hears something and he says to Abu Dharr radiAllahu anhu, makanak, stay here and don't leave until I give you permission. So Abu Dharr stays there and the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam goes to a place and Abu Dharr radiAllahu ta'ala anhu hears this loud voice speaking to the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam. Or just the noise and that voice, you know, it scared him a bit and he wanted to go out, but he remembered the order of the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam. So he stayed in his place and Rasulullah SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam spent some time over there and then the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam comes back and he says, Ya Rasulullah, what was that noise or that voice that I heard? And the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam said, did you hear it? Now you see subhanAllah through all of these narrations. Did you see it? Did you hear it? Because sometimes Allah subh'anaHu wa ta'ala allows some people to hear or see the mala'ika. Sometimes Allah subh'anaHu wa ta'ala keeps them, you know, obscured, which is the majority of time. And sometimes two people looking at the same angel, one can see the other can't. So the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam says, so you heard him? And Abu Dharr says, yes, Ya Rasulullah.
So the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam said, Jibreel Alayhi Salam came to me. So he called me out and he came to me. Now, before I say what he told him, there are numerous narrations of Jibreel Alayhi Salam calling the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam away from the gathering to give him some glad tidings. So the time where the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam was called away and he was found in sujood praising Allah and thanking Allah because Jibreel Alayhi Salam called him away from the gathering to tell him that Allah just sends him the news that anyone who sends salam on Rasulullah SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala would send that salam back to them 10 times and Jibreel Alayhi Salam would send that salam 10 times and they would be raised by 10 degrees. So here Jibreel called the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam away from Abu Dharr and the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam says, and he told me Man maata min ummatika la yushriku billahi shay'a dakhalal jannah I want you to know Ya Rasulullah whoever amongst your followers dies not associating a partner with Allah will enter into Jannah. Meaning at some point they're entering into Jannah. So, you know the narration of the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam, you know crying out for his ummah and Allah sending Jibreel Alayhi Salam to comfort him. This is a glad tiding that Jibreel Alayhi Salam wants to share with the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam. Now Abu Dharr radiAllahu ta'ala anhu he's already moved on from the surprise that this was Jibreel Alayhi Salam that he heard talking to the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam. He says Ya Rasulullah infa'ala katha wa katha Oh messenger of Allah even if he did this and that even if he committed adultery and stole, okay. And the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam said even if he did this and that. He said Ya Rasulullah even if he did this and that. This is another narration that extends this conversation even if he did this and that. So he's saying wait a minute, how will he go to Jannah and the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam is saying even if he did those things. So after repeating this to the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam and the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam responding to him, the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam says even if he did this and that even if Abu Dharr doesn't like it.
Even if Abu Dharr radiAllahu ta'ala anhu objects eventually this person will go to Jannah. Now of course there are different ways to go to Jannah and there are some that are punished on the way to Jannah. But this in and of itself was a Bushra to the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam. But at the same time we aspire to the death of the likes of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh radiAllahu ta'ala anhu and not someone that is just being mentioned in this way between Jibreel A'islam and the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam.
