So we've really tried to juxtapose good deeds and bad deeds and then how that falls into our pursuit of Allah with when we fall short of that pursuit of Allah and how we use our weaknesses to propel us towards having a stronger relationship with Allah and being more worthy of the love of Allah. So we talked about this idea of calling out to Allah not just despite our brokenness but with our brokenness. Of channeling our broken deeds towards Allah and hoping that they would be made whole into good deeds that actually make us more beloved to Allah. And there's this particular hadith that I want to come to now which talks about something that's beloved to Allah that actually shows its physical effects on us. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasalam said that there are no two drops more beloved to Allah than a tear that is shed in the khashia of Allah, in awe of Allah, and a drop of blood that is shed in a noble struggle for Allah. Then he said sallallahu alayhi wasalam, and there are no two traces that are more beloved to Allah than the trace that is left on a person in the cause of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and in that noble struggle of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and in the course of carrying out one of the obligations for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. So in the course of actually carrying out an act of worship. Now obviously first you have to frame this in the context of the companions of the Prophet peace be upon him. If you lived with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasalam then you have been through battle after battle after battle. So if you weren't killed in Badr, Uhud or Khandaq or one of those battles then you probably had a wound, you probably had a limp, you probably had some sort of effect that was left on you as a result of those battles. And so the companions would see someone with a limp and the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wasalam mentioned that this person would not have this limp in paradise anymore and so this is comforting to people that physically were wounded for being Muslims and suffering in the cause of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. But for us how do we take this and understand this in our own capacity? The Prophet peace be upon him said that when a person is asked on the day of judgment they would be asked عن جسمه فيما أبلأ they'd be asked about their bodies and what their bodies were consumed in. So the tears are obvious. The tears are really meant to engage you in a more spiritual and deeper form of connection with Allah in your supplication, in your worship, in your repentance. And what's specifically mentioned here is in the capacity of repentance and in the capacity of acknowledging the awesomeness of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala as you're remembering him. And the Prophet peace be upon him mentioned that an eye that sheds tears for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala would not be touched by the fire, it would not face any type of punishment from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala by virtue of that eye shedding a tear. The other part of that is when that brokenness actually has its effects on your body. If any one of you have ever been to Hajj and may Allah allow all of us to have a sincere and accepted Hajj that opportunity. If you're in Arafah and you see the people in their ihram garbs, in their garbs having not slept for days and you know having dust on their faces at times, those bags under their eyes because of that sleep deprivation. Just the way that everyone looks so exhausted and tired. No one looks their best in Arafah. And the Prophet peace be upon him mentioning that Allah loves to boast to his angels on the day of Arafah and says look at all of these servants of mine that have come to me from all over the world. Their hair unkempt, their faces covered with dust, their sleep deprived and all they're asking for is my mercy and my favor. Allah sees that. The Prophet peace be upon him and his companions they
went through that right? They went through those nights and those days of struggling for Allah. The struggle for service. The Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned a person whose hair becomes grey in the state of Islam. A person who incurs some sort of an injury in the cause of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. All of these things are significant. We look at the great grandson of the Prophet peace be upon him who when he passed away Zain al Abideen he had marks on his back from the bags of charity that he used to carry. When Allah talks about Athar al Sujood, the mark of prostration which obviously is beyond a physical mark. It's something that enlightens the faces of Allah's servants but you see some people that literally have a mark of Sujood on their foreheads. A mark of prostration on their foreheads from all of the years that they've spent prostrating to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. All of these things are portrayals of brokenness. We're not taught to hurt ourselves. I'm not telling anyone to go shed some blood from yourself and say that this is for the sake of Allah or to mess your head up a little bit and say this is for the sake of Allah. But think about all of the times that Allah saw you struggling to pray. Or maybe you had an injury and you weren't hurting yourself but it's just becoming harder. Those elderly people that still struggle to do what they have to do for the sake of Allah. The eyes shed tears of brokenness and vulnerability. The body shows signs of wear and tear and if it's for something that's good all of that is looked at by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and Allah sees that and knows that you did that for Him. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to allow us to cry sincerely for His sake. Not in a way that makes us feel hopeless but in a way that makes us feel hopeful that the one who sees our tears will not let them drop in vain. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala heal our brokenness. May Allah see us in our weakness and make it a reason for strength and may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala bound us closer to Him through those moments
when we feel distant from Him. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allow us to be used and consumed in ways that are good and ways that are pleasing to Him. Allahuma Ameen. Jazakum Allahu khayran. See you all next time inshallah.
