I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed. In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. And no one is worthy of worship except against the wrongdoers. And the end is for the righteous. O Allah, bless and bless Your servant and Messenger Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family and companions. Our brothers and sisters in Palestine, our brothers and sisters in Gaza, the fact that this masjid looks like Ramadan, I think is a sign of how much this has occupied the hearts and minds. And I actually want to start off with saying that that is in and of itself a sign of Iman, a sign of faith. A sign of faith is that you love for your brother what you love for yourself. When you see your brothers and sisters in Palestine that are suffering in the way that they are suffering, then it is a sign of Iman that you care enough to exert yourself in du'a, that you follow, that you ask yourself a million times a day, what can we do for our brothers and sisters in Palestine? And this has not been an ordinary time. I think all of us can recognize that this time feels very different, that it feels, subhanAllah, like there is something that is happening that we're not accustomed to. It's not the usual. Unfortunately, we've become used to the usual and the usual has been a few hundred people killed and then the world moves on until the next time that Israel decides to pound Gaza once again, to agitate in Al-Aqsa once again, and then the world moves on. But I wanted to frame this from a spiritual perspective, bismillah ta'ala, before we make du'a, before we talk specifically about Palestine.
You know, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gives very specific instructions to how we should behave in victory and how we should behave in, quote-unquote, defeat. Understanding that there is no such thing as true defeat when we are connected to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and there is no such thing as victory if that victory comes at the expense of your obligations to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. But there are behaviors, there are attitudes, there are things that are attached to each of those circumstances. And basically what it boils down to is that you are to be humble in victory, you are to be hopeful in defeat. Humble in victory, hopeful in defeat, and connected to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala throughout all of that time. So I was thinking about, subhanAllah, what is being said to the believer as they pass away. We've had a lot of people pass away. At this very moment right now, people are dying. People are dying and we can assume that the angels are saying to them what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said is said to them at the time of their death. That verily those who say we believe and then they were firm, تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ the angels descend upon them at the time of their departure and say do not be afraid أَلَّا تَخَافُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا Do not be afraid and do not grief وَأَبْشِرُوا بِالْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ And glad tidings for the paradise that awaits you سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ What we find from that ayah that is spoken to the righteous person as they are passing away May Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى
allow all of our martyred ones, all of our dying ones to be received with this and may Allah عز و جل allow us to be received with this أَلَّا تَخَافُوا Don't worry about that which comes after death Don't be afraid لا تخاف What comes next is not going to be what you are accustomed to All the horror, all the trauma, all of the hardship of this world is now gone You are now returning to your Lord سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى And you are returning to His promise You are returning to His comfort أَلَّا تَخَافُوا Don't be afraid وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا And don't grieve over the past وَأَبْشِرُوا بِالْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي كُنْتُمْ تُعَادُونَ Here is the paradise you've been promised As we watch our brothers and sisters pull their children out of the rubble pull their loved ones out of the rubble I want you to remember for a moment that what is said to them بِإِذْنِ اللهِ تَعَالَى as they left this world is just that Don't be afraid You went to sleep last night without electricity You went to sleep last night worrying about water You went to sleep last night worrying about fuel Don't be afraid لا تخافوا What comes next is no longer Gaza What comes next is no longer occupation You don't need to be afraid anymore You are returning to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى to a garden that is only occupied by the righteous لا تخافوا ولا تحزنوا And don't grieve anymore over that which you've left behind You are now taken care of سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى That messaging to the dead is meant to also serve as a comfort to the living that when we see so many of our brothers and sisters pass away
that we remind ourselves that they're okay that they're taken care of And Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى comforted the believers with the ayat of shahada وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَمْوَاتَهَا بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ فَرِحِينَ بِمَا أَتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِ وَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِاللَّذِينَ لَمْ يَرْحَقُوا بِهَمْ مِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى says that you know, those people that you have sent before you don't say that they're dead they're alive they are with their Lord now they are being taken care of now and they are happy فَرِحِينَ they are happy with what Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى has given to them dear brothers and sisters, if we don't have that belief in ourselves then we're going to suffer we have that belief firmly in our hearts that when shuhada leave, they leave to a better place and Allah revealed those verses to comfort the loved ones of the martyrs of Uhud to let them know your loved ones are okay your loved ones are now taken care of so what is said to them أَلَّا تَخَافُوا do not be afraid وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا and do not grieve now subhanAllah there is a messaging that Allah عز و جل gives to the people of Uhud that survived and the people of Uhud that passed away the people of Uhud that survived and that had to move on after Uhud required a different type of messaging and the messaging to them was وَلَا تَهِنُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا so I want you to just pay attention to this that to the one that is dying to the one that actually left this world أَلَّا تَخَافُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا don't be afraid and do not grieve don't be afraid and do not grieve but to the one that is alive وَلَا تَهِنُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا the root word here the messaging stays the same of حُزن of grief, don't grieve
now we are human beings Allah taught us to have hearts the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said whoever does not have mercy will not have mercy shown to them if your heart doesn't break then there is something wrong with your heart what can I do with a man who has no mercy in his heart but do not grieve to a point that it shuts you off that it shuts you down but the word وَلَا تَهِنُوا is different from أَلَّا تَخَافُوا see those that have left this world are given that message of you are going to be okay now you don't need to fear anything that comes next but those that have to continue forward are told وَلَا تَهِنُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَلَا تَهِنُوا تَهِنُوا means don't lose steam it means don't lose heart it means don't falter it means don't break down you still have to go forward don't stop don't stop وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا and do not let your grief overwhelm you to where you are shut down وَلَا تَهِنُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا don't stop don't lose heart don't quit this fight don't quit this struggle and you can imagine and this is what we've been talking about every Tuesday night and this makes Uhud feel very real right now even to us from far away as we're watching these images and they're debilitating but this makes it all that more real imagine walking around Medina and you survived Uhud and you buried everyone that you loved and the army that killed the Muslims that day they did تمثيل they mutilated the bodies and made examples out of them and you buried your loved ones and you saw them in pieces and you saw them cut up into all different types of figures all types of disfigurement and now you have to walk and you have to figure out what you do next وَلَا تَهِنُوا no, you're not allowed to quit
don't sulk don't give this up don't lose heart وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَنْتُمُ الْأَعْلَوْنَ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ when you are the exalted so long as you remain believers you are the victorious party you are on the higher ground so long as you remain believers so long as you did not lose your Iman so long as you maintained your faith you have not lost in victory in a worldly sense if you lose your faith you have lost in defeat if you maintained your faith you have won and subhanallah I was looking into ironically when the prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam received this ayah specifically وَأَنْتُمُ الْأَعْلَوْنَ Ibn Abbas radiallahu ta'ala anhuma says that when the Muslims were in Uhud and Khalid ibn al-Walid radiallahu ta'ala anhu who we've been talking about wanted to send a message to the Muslims of dominance and he was on the other side so he wanted to occupy the higher position and look down on the Muslims in the valley and the prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam looked up at Khalid at that time who was a mushrik and the prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam made the following dua he said اللهم لا يعلون عليهم اللهم لا يعلون علينا اللهم لا قوة لنا إلا بك اللهم ليس يعبدك بهذه البلدة غير هؤلاء النفر اللهم لا يعلون علينا Oh Allah do not let them be dominant over us do not give them the higher position over us اللهم لا قوة لنا إلا بك Oh Allah we have no power except in that which we find in you اللهم ليس يعبدك بهذه البلدة غير هؤلاء النفر Oh Allah no one worships you on this earth except for this group of people Subhanallah the same messaging
that the prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam had in Badr Oh Allah if this group of people is defeated you will not be worshipped on this earth I want you to think about the person who is dying and I want you to think about the person who watches people die and if your heart breaks for Gaza if your heart breaks with every single father that you see pull out a child from under the rubble that is absent from western media that your president of the United States failed to even mention one time today in his speech that your corporations and your companies and whatever it is that you're associated with are posting obnoxiously I stand with Israel which is a blank check for genocide completely ignoring the cruelty that is being inflicted on our people if your heart breaks every time you see that that's a sign of Iman but Allah Azawajal says وَلَا تَهِنُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَنتُمُ الْأَعْلَوْنَا إِن كُنتُم مُؤْمِنِينَ do not falter what I want to say dear brothers and sisters on a spiritual level first and foremost وَلَا تَهِنُوا you know our brothers and sisters have suffered a lot and they've been suffering for a long time they have been under the cruelty of this occupation for decades now completely ignored but not by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and while their casualties are not noted here and while it might seem like they're being cast aside I want you to recognize that the people that are under the rubble and the people that are being buried in these bombs are أَكْرَمُوا أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ are the most noble people on earth in the sight of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala right now we don't need anyone to validate our narrative we don't need anyone to honor our loved ones we don't need anyone to honor our dead we have to ask ourselves where are we in all of this they don't persevere they keep going
they refuse to stop existing they refuse to give up on Al-Aqsa they refuse to give up on their righteous cause they refuse to go away the Palestinian people absolutely refuse now here's something that I want to put back to you every moment that you speak up it might cost you your job it might cost you something at work it might cost you this and it might cost you that it might cost us collectively some sort of political currency it might cost us all sorts of different things but this is for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and so you have to be willing to use whatever voice you have right now as this public narrative is entirely dominated by this occupational machine it's important for you to use everything that you have to bring forth the cause of Palestine that has been ignored and not let anybody put you on the back foot do not let anybody make you out to be a vicious monster we're not a people who have justified the killing of babies and all the other stuff that is put on us we're a people that have been saying for decades and years where are you when apartheid takes place when occupation takes place on a daily basis and you say absolutely nothing about these people you say absolutely nothing about these children it's going to get more difficult in the days to come Allah knows best what's left and I want to remind myself and remind all of you that تلك الأيام نداويرها بين الناس Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says there are days of victory days of defeat it goes here and it goes there but Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala promises وَالْعَقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
victory is for the God conscious you know oppressors get drunk and intoxicated by their seeming supports and the structures of oppression that they have they support one another they egg one another on and they look around and they say I've got this and I've got that and I feel a sense of safety I feel like I can get away with this إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَيُمْلِي لِلظَّالِمِ Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gives them this sense of intoxication with their oppression until Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala takes them until Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala seizes them and He does not let them go use everything that's at your disposal to raise the plight of the people of Palestine if anything that these last few years have shown us is that there is no acceptable way that's been given to us to raise the cause of our brothers and sisters you boycott, then you're in trouble you say something, you're in trouble you're no longer allowed to advocate for the Palestinian people and their dignity without some sort of punitive measure so be it so be it, they're losing their lives we can take this stand collectively as a community inshallah ta'ala and so whatever protest is available to us whatever donations are available to us you know, whatever Allah azawajal gives us of the opportunity to support our brothers and sisters right now when all the odds are stacked against them we have to utilize that inshallah ta'ala and we have to make sure that we're with them and that we heed وَلَا تَهِنُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا أَنتُمُ الْأَعْلَوْنَا إِن كُنتُم مُؤْمِنِينَ we're sick of seeing the videos of children being pulled out the rubble trust me, they're sick of being in those videos they're sick of pulling their children out of the rubble they're sick of the oppression but inshallah ta'ala we know وَالْحَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ that victory is for the God conscious and so lastly الدعاء
الدعاء your du'a is the greatest tool that is at your disposal I know it doesn't feel like that sometimes but you need to understand that there is not a single du'a that you make in vain your du'a in your sujood your du'a in your witr your du'a in your qunoot in every single salah your du'a in your qiyam every single moment that you exert yourself in du'a is not a wasted moment Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has promised us victory Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has promised us that al-aqsa will be free we know this inshallah ta'ala but exert yourself in du'a and so tonight inshallah ta'ala we will make a du'a for our brothers and sisters in al-aqsa we'll make a du'a for our brothers and sisters in Palestine but if this is the only du'a that you're making for your brothers and sisters that's a problem I know that many of us look for someone else to make du'a for us whatever language you have whatever your heart pushes you to just wake up and pray just push yourself in your sujood and make du'a in a way that you know how to make du'a so inshallah ta'ala we will make a short du'a for our brothers and sisters in Palestine and I remind all of you inshallah ta'ala to please when you see opportunities to donate through legitimate organizations donate inshallah ta'ala we will have those types of efforts here inshallah ta'ala when you have an opportunity to raise your voice, raise your voice do not be afraid of the consequences of raising your voice and insisting that the suffering of the Palestinian people which is absent from western media is not absent from your hearts and not absent from your tongues not absent from your thoughts push back wherever you are and whatever courses of action that we have inshallah ta'ala we take
and we insist on du'a inshallah ta'ala we will make du'a for a few minutes bid'ah ta'ala and then I ask all of you to please keep them in your du'a on an individual basis as well alhamdulillah alhamdu lillahi rabbil alameen Alright, last prayer alhamdulillah alhamdulilah alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala Almighty Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala All praises will be to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala the owner of the heavens and the earth and everything in between All praises are due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala who provides and withholds all praises are due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala Who exalts and who humiliates all praises are due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala Who raises and who lowers All praises are due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala Who hears our prayers all praises are due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala Who is with the oppressed All praises are due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala Who hears the call of every madroom Who hears the call of every oppressed one All praises are due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala Who made this ummah like one body All praises are due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala Who sent us our beloved messenger, Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam All praises are due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala Who gave our messenger, alayhi salatu wa salam, the honor and the privilege of leading all of the prophets in al-Aqsa All praises are due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala Who elevated our beloved prophet, Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, from that noble place of al-Aqsa All praises are due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'ala Who has answered the call of Zakariya, alayhi salam, from al-Aqsa, answered the call of Maryam, alayhi salam, from al-Aqsa
