00:00What is the Qur'an? The Qur'an contains the literal words of God. And it's significant and a foundational belief in Islam that God must speak in order to guide, He must speak.

00:17And Allah says in the Qur'an directly, وَكَلَّمَ اللَّهُ مُوسَىٰ تَكْلِيمًا that Allah spoke to Moses with words.

02:02That because God guides and because God speaks, He has spoken to different communities of human beings throughout history, giving them prophets and revelation.

02:11This is what makes Islam continuous with previous traditions such as Christianity and Judaism and those before. There's another thread that makes Islam a continuity rather than a break from monotheism that came before.

02:25And that is the 'aqidah or the theology. You will never find a true prophet of God calling to the worship of any idols or anything other than God. And this is echoed in the Qur'an itself.

02:37That the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) commanded people to worship God alone and to turn away from all idols. This is also what the prophets of the Old Testament, Abraham, Moses, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, all preached to their people.

02:51This is what is found in Jewish scriptures. This is what is found in many scriptures. And so when we have this idea of continuity across prophets, this message, the core message, monotheism, believing in God alone,

03:16How is it possible that even within the covers of your own Bible, Moses and Abraham and the other Old Testament prophets are calling people to worship only one God. They're not mentioning anything about a Trinity.

03:28And yet the claim is that from the New Testament onwards that God is somehow three. But that's not to say that we can expect every revelation to be perfectly identical to the one that came before it.

03:40There are differences between the revelation that is given in the Qur'an and the revelation that was given to Jesus in the Gospels and the revelation that was given to Moses in the Torah and so on and so forth. And that difference is found in the law.

03:54That while the theology which reflects reality must be the same from revelation to revelation, from community to community, the laws that govern those faith communities might be different slightly. That is because for two reasons.

04:06One, because Allah said so in the Qur'an when He said that we have given to each of you a law and a way. And second, logically because the law is not based on simply reality and what is,

04:18but the law is based off of what human beings should do. And what human beings should do, although there is a lot of overlap and continuity, there is some discontinuity and change as well.

04:30This is why, for example, the Old Testament revelations asked their people to offer up burnt offerings. Yet in the Qur'an we have no tradition of burnt offerings.

04:40There are other things such as observing the Sabbath, not working on a particular day of the week. In Islam, there is no Sabbath in the sense of having to refrain from work on one particular day.

04:51This situates Islam as the most balanced and also the most inclusive religion and world system out there because it recognizes the validity of the previous revelations. Even though we believe that those revelations were eventually lost or tampered with.

05:05We believe that Jesus was a prophet of God that was given revelation and that revelation was true even if the generations after him lost it. We believe that Moses was a true prophet of God that was given revelation

05:17and that revelation was true even if the subsequent generations lost it. So we don't believe that the only people that are in paradise or that are saved are the people that follow the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

05:28We believe that the people who correctly followed Jesus and the people who correctly followed Moses and the people who correctly followed Abraham are also in paradise. But there is one important thing that must be said.

05:38Which is that of all of the revelations that have been given from God to mankind, only one of them is intact. Only one of them has been preserved. Only one of them has not been tampered with and that is the Qur'an.

05:50The Qur'an is the best evidence of all of the revelations. And if you don't believe me, then I encourage you to look into the manuscript evidence and look into how these different texts and scriptures were committed from pen to paper

06:04and to memory and how they were passed down through the ages. You will find that there is nothing similar to the Qur'an. And if you claim to be a believer of God and you claim to be someone who follows the prophets,

06:14the prophets such as Abraham and the prophet such as Moses and Jacob and Joseph and Jesus, then you owe it to yourself to find out the truth.
