The Shuhada (martyrs) have a special place with Allah SWT. Allah sent down the Surah Al-Imran, verse 169-170, to reassure the companions that the Shuhada, those who are killed in the way of Allah, are not dead but alive with their Lord. They are receiving provision from Allah and rejoicing in His sustenance while they wait for those who have not yet passed, to join them in that realm. There is no fear upon them and nor shall they grieve.

For the righteous, their graves are expanded and filled with light. They are told by the angels to sleep, until they will be awoken at a later time. They are showed their place in Jannah twice a day, in the morning and in the evening.
