For every hardship, patience brings peace and grows gardens of reward. ## Transcript **[0:00]** Regret is the lot of every soul. The only thing everyone will carry with them into the **[0:17]** barzakh will be the words, if only. **[0:37]** In a narration in the Tirmidhi, Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) narrates that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ يَمُوتُ إِلَّا نَدِمَ That there is no one who dies but that he shall have some sort of regret. They said, and what shall he regret, O Messenger of Allah? **[0:53]** He said, إِنْ كَانَ مُحْسِنًا نَدِمَ أَنْ لَا يَكُونَ ازْدَادَ If he was a good-doer, he regrets that he didn't do more good. وَإِنْ كَانَ مُسِيئًا نَدِمَ أَنْ لَا يَكُونَ نَزَعَ And if he was an evil-doer, he regrets that he didn't stop his sin. **[1:10]** The believer wishes to come back initially in his grave so that he can tell his family the good news. But then they wish for the hereafter so that they can be reunited with their family while still receiving the greater reward. The disbeliever wants to come back to do good deeds because they failed to do so, and now **[1:28]** they're horrified about the Day of Judgment, which is why even in their torture they keep asking Allah to delay the Day of Judgment. There is this sentiment that is very common. I don't know if I'm going to make it. And sometimes you might be so sad that you say, I wish I never even lived. **[1:46]** There was a great scholar in Tabi'in, Ata' as-Sulami (رحمه الله), and he was known for his grief. And one time his students visited him and they heard him saying to himself, لَيْتَ عَطَاءً لَمْ تَلِدْهُ أُمُّهُ I wish Ata's mom never gave birth to him. **[2:01]** And he's saying that about himself. And he would make this du'a, اللهم ارحم غربتي في الدنيا وارحم مصرعي عند الموت وارحم قيامي بين يديك Oh Allah, have mercy on my estrangement in this world. **[2:17]** Have mercy on my death when I die. And have mercy on my standing before you. And Salih ibn Bishr says, I saw him in a dream after his death. And I said to him, may Allah have mercy on you, O Ata'. You are so often in a state of sorrow in this worldly life. **[2:34]** And he replied and said, by Allah, that sorrow has resulted in long lasting joy and eternal happiness. So I asked him, in which rank are you? And he said, مع الذين أنعم الله عليهم من النبيين والصديقين والشهداء والصالحين **[2:50]** وحسن أولئك رفيقا With those upon whom Allah has bestowed favor from the prophets, the truthful ones, the shuhada and so on and so forth. And what blessed company that is. Now, even then you have regrets. **[3:06]** Even if you made it, you know you could have done more. And that's why Ibn al-Qayyim who wrote the book Kitab al-Ruh, he says, I saw my teacher and Imam Ibn Taymiyyah in a dream. So I asked Ibn Taymiyyah about his rank. And Ibn Taymiyyah pointed to his high station above some of the greatest stations. **[3:25]** And then he said to him, and you were about to reach our rank, but you fell just at the level of Imam Ibn Khuzaymah, meaning keep on striving so that you can reach an even higher rank. Now, here's something that I want you to think about, especially in this last year and a half. **[3:43]** Do you think the people of Gaza wish they never lived? Do you think the people of Gaza wished that their existence simply never came to be so that they wouldn't encounter this torture that we've all watched on our screens? I want you to realize that according to what the Prophet (ﷺ) has said, **[4:02]** the people of Gaza would want to do this all over again. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, no one who enters Jannah will want to return to the world and have anything on earth except for the Shaheed. He would wish to return to this world and be killed 10 times over **[4:21]** because of the karamah, because of the generosity that he sees from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Jabir (رضي الله عنه), whose father was martyred in Uhud, he wanted to come back to this world so that he could be martyred again, even though he was one of those who was described as muthila bihi, he was mutilated. **[4:40]** But even then, he'd want to come back and let that happen again and again, not because of what he enjoyed in his body, but because of what the soul experiences now of beauty. Everyone from the kafir to the Shaheed would want to come back to this dunya, **[4:56]** but for different reasons. If only you delay me just a little bit longer, so I'll give charity and I'll be from the righteous. Everyone will wish they gave more charity. **[5:13]** Everyone will wish they prayed more. Everyone will wish they did more. When death comes, a person will wish to go back to this world so that if he was a kafir, he might become Muslim and if he was a sinner, he might repent. And if he was a good doer, he might do more good. **[5:46]** Until death comes to one of them and he says, my Lord, send me back so that I may do good in that which I've left behind. No, it is but a word that he speaks and behind them is a barzakh until the day when they're resurrected. **[6:03]** Just know that you will never regret a dunya-y opportunity that you missed out on. No one in the barzakh right now is saying, man, I was so close to getting that job or that house or I missed out on this opportunity or I never got to marry this person or that person. **[6:19]** I never got to do this. I never got to do that. And you will never regret a trial that you went through and were patient with for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. You will only regret a moment that you didn't spend for Allah **[6:35]** or a sin that you didn't repent from or a good deed that you failed to perform or something that you know you could have done a little bit better.
