**[0:00]** Welcome to video number two of Yaqeen Institute's Proof of Prophethood series, An Ethical and Historical Necessity. Believing in God's messengers is more than just an aspect of practicing one's religion. There's also an ethical need to have strong conviction in the prophets who came before us.

**[0:18]** In Islam, believing in all the messengers is required to validate one's faith, and Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is certainly no exception to that rule. That is because God himself appointed Muhammad and all the other prophets. While humanistic virtues such as compassion and justice are praiseworthy,

**[0:36]** they do not replace the moral need for faith. In terms of salvific eligibility in the hereafter, accepting God's message upon discovering it is necessary for validating one's goodness before God. The basic tools required to be good are one's existence,

**[0:54]** goodwill, and the various faculties, limbs, wealth, and so forth, needed to enact the good one recognizes. Since all of these are endowed by God, rejecting God disqualifies this goodness from a person, for it would then be, in essence, plagiarized goodness.

**[1:12]** There is yet another reason why believing in the messengers is an inherent facet of being a good person. We'll discuss this in video number three. See you there!
