## Summary
In this episode of Qur'an 30 for 30 covering Juz' 15, Sh. Omar Suleiman is joined by first-time guest Sh. Mahmoud Mohamed and Sh. Abdullah Oduro to explore key themes from Surat Al-Isra, Al-Kahf, and Maryam. The discussion opens with an appreciation for these three consecutive surahs as a particularly rich and coherent section of the Qur'an. Sh. Omar highlights how the divine names As-Sami' (the All-Hearing) and Al-Basir (the All-Seeing) permeate Juz' 15, manifesting differently depending on one's relationship with Allah — as a source of comfort for the Prophet (ﷺ) during his Night Journey, and as a basis of accountability for Bani Isra'il. The first four verses of Surat Al-Isra are examined in depth, revealing four distinct functions of Allah's attributes: taking His servant on a miraculous journey, descending revelation, saving people in this world (as with Nuh's ark), and holding nations accountable for their transgressions. The scholars then focus on verse 44 of Surat Al-Isra [Al-Isra 17:44], which states that the seven heavens, the earth, and everything within them glorify Allah, though humans cannot perceive this tasbih — and yet Allah remains Al-Halim (the Forbearing) and Al-Ghafur (the All-Forgiving). Sh. Mahmoud reflects on how human forgetfulness (rooted in the word 'nas') leads to sin, and how pondering creation naturally leads one to say SubhanAllah. The episode also addresses verse 17 of Surat Al-Isra [Al-Isra 17:17], which reminds that Allah destroyed many nations after Nuh, being fully aware and all-seeing of their sins. This is connected to contemporary questions about why Allah allows oppression to persist, with the scholars emphasizing that Allah's hilm (forbearance) precedes His punishment, and that divine justice — though delayed — is always complete and perfectly timed.

## Key Points
- Surat Al-Isra, Al-Kahf, and Maryam are considered a particularly beautiful and coherent section of the Qur'an, rich in narrative and spiritual lessons.
- The divine names As-Sami' (All-Hearing) and Al-Basir (All-Seeing) are central to Juz' 15, and one's experience of these names differs based on one's deeds — they bring comfort to the righteous and accountability to the transgressor.
- The first four verses of Surat Al-Isra reveal four functions of Allah's attributes: taking His servant on a miraculous journey, revealing Scripture, saving people in this world, and holding nations accountable.
- Verse 44 of Surat Al-Isra [Al-Isra 17:44] teaches that all of creation — the seven heavens, the earth, and everything within them — glorifies Allah, though humans cannot perceive this tasbih.
- Despite all of creation glorifying Allah and despite human sinfulness, Allah remains Al-Halim (Forbearing) and Al-Ghafur (All-Forgiving), withholding punishment out of mercy.
- Al-Halim is a name that reflects Allah's forbearance despite His full knowledge of our sins — a quality humans struggle most to embody, as forbearance is only learned through practice.
- The word 'nas' (human beings) is connected by some scholars to 'nasi' (forgetfulness), highlighting that human neglect of Allah's greatness is a root cause of sin.
- Verse 17 of Surat Al-Isra [Al-Isra 17:17] reminds believers that Allah destroyed many nations after Nuh, being fully aware of their sins — addressing the question of why evil persists by affirming that divine justice is certain, complete, and perfectly timed.
- Allah's hilm (forbearance) must be understood alongside His role as Al-Muntaqim (the Avenger) — punishment, when it comes, is well-earned and the result of complete divine justice.
- Believers are encouraged to seek forgiveness not only for sins they remember, but also for harms done to others that they may have forgotten, as Allah has forgotten neither.

## Transcript
**[0:05]** There are no three surahs in the Qur'an that I enjoy reading back to back than Al-Isra, Al-Kahf, and Maryam. Like, these three surahs back to back, it is my favorite section of the Qur'an to go through. It's—it is my garden. We forget about more of the sins that we've committed. We forget about more of them. When

**[0:20]** we ask Allah for forgiveness and we try our best to think of all of them, just know that there's many more that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has overlooked and has forgiven. How can Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala see the suffering of the Muslims in Gaza, in Sudan, occupied East Turkestan? How can it be that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala

**[0:36]** is both all-knowing and all-powerful, and yet there are evildoers who persist in their wrongdoing? The Qur'an is full of lessons for those who are looking. السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته everyone. Welcome back to

**[0:52]** Qur'an 30 for 30. Alhamdulillahi Rabbil 'Alamin. We are in Juz' 15, and we are joined by, Alhamdulillah, first-time guest, new to Yaqeen, an actual part of Yaqeen, Alhamdulillahi Rabbil 'Alamin, part and parcel, Shaykh Mahmoud Mohammed. الحمد لله رب العالمين. كيف حالك يا شيخ؟ حياكم الله شيخ، good to be here. الله

**[1:09]** يحييك. How have you been? Good, mashallah. I'm—I'm well. Good to be here with Shaykh Abdullah as well. الله المستعان. كيف الحال؟ Oh, so he's—he's your guy. I'm not your guy? معروف. Is it because of basketball? It's three African Americans up here right now. All right, Shaykh. So we were talking about Somalia before we

**[1:25]** rolled the cameras, man. What do you want to say about Somalia? Be careful. Careful. Egyptians listening or not? Careful. I was going to say أم الدنيا, the real. Oh, the real أم الدنيا? Oh my God. Civilization stuff. Our stock is about to go up in—in Somalia.

**[1:41]** We're about to lose every Egyptian follower as well as staff member at Yaqeen. My Egyptian friends that, uh, Somalia and Egypt, we—we have that in between us, you know? We think we're the greatest country on the planet. But, uh, الحمد لله, Somalia is, uh, near and dear to my

**[1:56]** heart. Uh, Somali Americans, ما شاء الله, they're—um—they're a strong community here in the U.S. So what's like the Masri equivalent of Minnesota? Is there one? Is there like a really Masri city in America? Like, Minnesota is basically Somalia, right? So what's—what's the Egyptian equivalent? What's the Masri capital of America, Shaykh. Why? I don't know. I don't know, man. I

**[2:13]** think they think. That's right. And I think—I think they think that, ما شاء الله. Somali is also where you go today. But Ghanaian, Shaykh? Ghanaian. No, we're very selective. We're very, very selective. Houston. Houston. وبس. Houston. Yeah, some parts of the East Coast, الحمد لله. Maryland,

**[2:28]** yeah, mashallah. ما شاء الله. It's good to have you, Shaykh. Good to be here. Shaykh, what's—um—we're going to be talking about the names of Allah. What's your favorite name of Allah? Fadlullah, my favorite name of Allah is the one that, uh, that we're going to cover this episode, and I love the name Al-Halim. Al-Halim. ما شاء الله.

**[2:44]** Yeah. Forbearance. Forbearance without respite. يعني forbearance when الله سبحانه وتعالى—يعني He could punish you, and you're likely deserving of His punishment, but He opts to forgive you and continues to forgive you even after you sin and you transgress.

**[3:00]** Absolutely. What a beautiful name. الحمد لله رب العالمين. SubhanAllah, it's also—by the way, one of my favorite names. ما شاء الله. SubhanAllah, truly one of my favorite names is Al-Halim. I remember when the first time that I dove into it, even when I was preparing for the Ramadan series. Because it's—it's every name of الله سبحانه وتعالى, the way that He manifests it, سبحانه وتعالى,

**[3:19]** even if there's a—a human manifestation of an attribute of the attributes of الله سبحانه وتعالى, and of course we're never going to be anything like Him, but the one that human beings struggle with the most is forgiving people and letting things go, and—and especially holding back. Like, we're so quick to take revenge, and we're

**[3:36]** so quick to punish, we're so quick to discipline, we're so quick to this, so quick to that. So الله سبحانه وتعالى's hilm despite His 'ilm, His—His forbearance despite His knowledge of us is—is truly, سبحان الله, stunning. And, الحمد لله على ذلك,

**[3:53]** may الله عز وجل allow us to manifest, uh, some of that amongst each other, um, as well. So you forgive me for what I did to you on the court? Oh, Shaykh, you went there. No, no, it's okay. It's—I'm worried about the next time we get on the court. Forgiven or forgotten, Shaykh?

**[4:08]** إن شاء الله. His game is no joke, man. No, man. You—you also have—have great fundamentals. Fundamentals, Shaykh. You know—you know, have you seen fundamentals in basketball, Shaykh? I can't tell you. Yes, yes. My son was telling me about them when he played against you. That's not here nor there. That's—that's what scouts say when they see a guy who's not super athletic. Man,

**[4:27]** his fundamentals are amazing. He can't cut to the... So it was an insult. This—this whole time, it was an insult. I thought people were—were—were complimenting me, man. طيب يا مشايخ. الحمد لله. May الله سبحانه وتعالى increase us in ukhuwwah, all of us, and connect

**[4:43]** us with the Qur'an. اللهم آمين So, SubhanAllah, this actually, by the way, from a juz' perspective, I think there are no three surahs in the Qur'an that I enjoy reading back to back than Al-Isra, Al-Kahf, and Maryam. Like, these three surahs back to back, it is

**[4:58]** my favorite section of the Qur'an to go through. It's—it is my garden, uh, when I'm—when I'm doing any khatm, when I'm—when I'm reading, when I'm reflecting. Even like when I—when I do the story of Al-Khidr عليه السلام and Musa عليه السلام, that—that whole story, it's like, if you just read this juz' from their perspective, the

**[5:14]** perspective of that, and then, uh, what happens in Maryam, it's incredible how coherent, how beautiful, how miraculous, um, you know, this juz' is and the stories that are found within it. They're so unbelievable, but they're still so relevant, which is—which is the—the beauty of the

**[5:31]** Qur'an. Like, there are things that are happening, unbelievable in the sense, like, to a person, obviously, who's a skeptic of—of God and things of that sort. To us as believers, we believe them with full submission and tranquility. But I'm saying they've—like, Zakariya عليه السلام having a child at that age, Musa عليه السلام and Al-Khidr عليهما السلام experiencing what

**[5:48]** they're experiencing, and the sleepers in the cave, and Ya'juj and Ma'juj. We believe all of this with full yaqeen, but every—the lessons are so relevant and so practical. SubhanAllah. So, um, I'll do a quick overview, insha'Allah ta'ala. This obviously starts off with Surat Al-Isra. And in—in this juz', um, this has As-Sami'

**[6:06]** Al-Basir, the All-Hearing and the All-Seeing, all over it. I mean, it's—it's so repeated, uh, in this juz' of the Qur'an. But there are two things I want you to pay attention to in Surat Al-Isra. Surat Al-Isra is also, of course, Surat Bani Isra'il. So it—it combines almost two opposite themes, seemingly, right,

**[6:24]** if you're not paying close enough attention. But Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala heard and saw the pain of the Prophet (ﷺ) and then took him on this miraculous journey. And Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala heard and saw the pain caused by Bani Isra'il and took them to account for it. So it just shows you

**[6:40]** how the names of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala can be interacted with differently depending on your state, right? How are you interacting with As-Sami' Al-Basir right now? Is it from a place of comfort or accountability? So it starts off with,

Like, glory be to the one who took His servant Muhammad (ﷺ) by night, from the sacred mosque to the furthest mosque, being Al-Aqsa, may Allah Azza wa Jalla liberate it, whose surroundings we have blessed so that we may show him some of our signs. Indeed, He alone is the All-Hearing

**[7:15]** and the All-Seeing. Ibn al-Jawzi rahimahullah talks about this first and foremost from the perspective of, uh, like, the—the way that, uh, a person who doesn't believe in the Messenger of Allah, by default, does not believe in Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala Himself, and vice versa.

**[7:33]** As-Siddiq, Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه), affirmed the journey of the Prophet (ﷺ) because if he said it, fa-qad sadaqa, then he's telling the truth. And in that is like, I don't have to see it or hear it to believe it because if he heard it and saw it and experienced

**[7:51]** it being the Prophet (ﷺ) that's enough for me. So he is As-Sami' Al-Basir. If anyone wants to question the hearing or the sight of the Prophet (ﷺ) or the experience of the Prophet (ﷺ) Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala saw it and He heard it, and Allah Azza wa Jalla, of course, facilitated it through and through. But

**[8:07]** here's what I—what I want you to pay attention to. So first and foremost, obviously, Allah heard and saw the pain of the Prophet (ﷺ) in Ta'if and in his most difficult moments, and then took him on this journey. But in the first four ayat of Surat Al-Isra or Surat Bani Isra'il, Allah introduces a

**[8:23]** different layer of Himself in every single one of them, a different function of these attributes. So the next ayah is, وَآتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ وَجَعَلْنَاهُ هُدًى لِّبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَلَّا تَتَّخِذُوا مِن دُونِي وَكِيلًا We gave Musa the revelation, and we made it a guide for Bani Isra'il. And we stated,

**[8:41]** "Don't take anyone but Me as a wakil, as a trustee of your affairs." Like, you've been so used to being Fir'aun-occupied that you might become Fir'aunic if you don't take Allah as your wakil, if you don't understand this. Like, you're going to just become your own Fir'auns, which is SubhanAllah, exactly

**[8:58]** what happens. They start to manifest the behavior of their—their enslaver the first moment that they are freed. So Allah Azza wa Jall introduced Himself in the first verse as taking the Prophet (ﷺ) on this miraculous journey. Second verse, Allah Subhanahu wa

**[9:14]** Ta'ala introduced Himself as revealing Scripture, right, uh, which comes with the notion of covenant. Third verse, ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا uh, "O descendants of those that we carried with Nuh in the ark. Verily he was a grateful servant." SubhanAllah,

**[9:30]** there's a powerful connection that some of the mufassirun make here, that before Allah Azza wa Jalla saved Bani Isra'il through Musa 'alayhis-salam and parted the seas for them, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala saved their ancestors on the ark of Nuh 'alayhis-salam.

**[9:45]** The difference is Nuh 'alayhis-salam was grateful, and those that were with him were deserving. So before the seas were parted for you, an ark was created for your ancestors to be put on it so that they could be saved from a flood. So aren't you paying attention? So the third one is Allah Azza wa Jalla saves in this dunya. So first one takes on

**[10:03]** a journey. Second one, descends revelation. Third one, saves, um, uh, in this world. And we warned Bani Isra'il in the

**[10:19]** Scripture, "You will certainly cause corruption in the land twice, and you will become extremely arrogant." So Allah now accounting, right, according to the blessings that He gave. So it's just very interesting, SubhanAllah, that you have four, uh, functions of the same attributes coming out

**[10:36]** in the first four verses here of, uh, Surat Al-Isra, which just shows you the way that these things are actually meant to manifest in our lives and that you interact with Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala with your deeds, and you will experience Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala based upon, uh, your deeds as well. The last thing I'll say

**[10:52]** in terms of just a nice rabt, connection, the verse—the first verse of Surat Al-Isra and the first verse of Surat Al-Kahf, the first verse of Surat Al-Isra, سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلًا مِّنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ, right? Allah Azza wa Jalla gives us the imagery, SubhanAllah, He is the one

**[11:09]** who took His servant on that journey through the heavens. The first verse of Surat Al-Kahf, الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَنزَلَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ الْكِتَابَ. The first verse of Surat Al-Kahf, "All praise be to the one who descended His book upon His 'abd." Both of the times, He took His servant

**[11:25]** to the heavens or He descended revelation from the heavens upon His servant. But when we are dealing with Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, it is always, uh, vertical, and everything horizontal should be interpreted in light of the vertical, right? You're looking up, you're dealing with Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, you're dealing with the Lord who

**[11:42]** ascends, who descends, who honors, who humiliates based upon what He knows of us, Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. So may Allah Azza wa Jalla make us amongst the worthy that, uh, exemplify and manifest the best of the servants of, uh, who were saved on the ark of Noah and who

**[11:59]** embodied what the Prophet (ﷺ) embodied as a grateful servant, and not like Bani Isra'il who took the blessings and then, um, manifested the worst of behavior and ended up being held to account. Allahumma amin. Any, uh, reflections, insha'Allah ta'ala, ya mashaykh, on this before we get into our two verses?

**[12:16]** No, Alhamdulillah, MashaAllah, TabarakAllah. I mean, just these four ayat that you're talking about, really, you know, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has always given the dhikr and the reminder showing that what happened with prophets before you, being Musa and Nuh 'alayhima as-salam, and how the manifestation of His power, His qudra, His hilm at the same time, you know, interestingly enough,

**[12:34]** dealing with the sea, whether it's parting the sea or having Nuh with his companions on the sea, but showing how SubhanAllah, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, He's Al-Hadi and He will always guide in different ways, and people will respond in different ways. When you capitalized on that with a particular name of Allah Subhanahu wa

**[12:51]** Ta'ala, how it interacts with you and how Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala is reminding us, ya'ni, He's the one that can, He's able to do all things, bringing you up, أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلًا at the nighttime مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَىٰ, and He's done the same. He's done similar to that for Musa

**[13:07]** in that which was literally miraculous and beyond human capabilities. I think that's what's important to realize at the beginning of this chapter as it introduces us to the manifestation of Allah's power, His qudrah, His love, and His honor of those that live up to those standards, being the prophets 'alayhimus-salam. I

**[13:23]** think that's beautiful when He gives in these four verses how you mentioned, you think of Musa and you think of Nuh and how, you know, there were people that with him that weren't grateful and people that were with Nuh that were grateful. But Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala will always be someone that is there for those that believe in Him, regardless of those that believe in Him or don't

**[13:40]** believe in Him that may be with Him. And it's important to have that as a companion and a reminder for us as well. SubhanAllah. Yeah, and it's so interesting, Shaykh Abdullah, that you mentioned that because Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala in different places in the Qur'an, He shows the value of guidance by different ways. So Musa 'alayhis-salam by virtue of Al-Khidr, ya'ni, that journey

**[13:57]** they take together, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on a journey himself. Ya'ni, so it's a miracle within a miracle. Ya'ni, and you look, I'm so happy that Shaykh Omar mentioned the tartib of the surahs. When we were in Dugsi madrasah for the Somalis, when you got to these three surahs, it's kind of like

**[14:14]** you've made it. Ya'ni, whether you were starting from Al-Baqarah or you're starting from Al-Fatihah, ya'ni, this was seen as the surahs that we all looked forward to because these are the surahs that, um, students typically, when they were leading salah in Minnesota or wherever we were, these are the surahs that had

**[14:29]** some of the most kind of melodic and poetic ayat. So you wanted to be able to learn these surahs so you could lead salah. يعني سبحان الله ماشاء الله يعني also the narrative flow of them. You know, uh, one of the things that we learned in our education was that the teacher would typically, while we weren't

**[14:44]** taught the tafsir then and there, the teacher made it a point to kind of, especially in the narrative surahs, you say, "Look, this is Surah of Maryam. What's the big picture here?" Maryam in يعني in that moment of, uh, of difficulty, الله سبحانه وتعالى will deliver her from difficulty. 'Isa عليه السلام will be the product

**[15:00]** of that, uh, of that difficulty. Similar يعني the story of Zakariya being granted that great hikmah, that great wisdom in the form of Yahya. But, uh, you know, those we would always say in a way that, um, our teachers would say, "You guys are the sleepers of the cave of this era." يعني you're going

**[15:16]** to be tested and tried, and يعني will you come out on the other side? And so يعني the miracle of the Qur'an, part and parcel of its miracle, is that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has ordered it so perfectly, and only a person should only look. Ya'ni, which brings us to the ayah that we're covering now,

**[15:33]** verse 44 of Surat Al-Isra, such an interesting ayah because, ya'ni, its arc is similar in that narrative arc. So it starts by this, تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ السَّمَاوَاتُ السَّبْعُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ ۚ The seven heavens, ya'ni, as Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has fashioned them, and

**[15:48]** the earth, وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِ that the seven heavens and the earth and everything contained therein, what do they do? All of those, ya'ni, they glorify Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.

**[16:03]** This glorification of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, the ayah, ya'ni, preceding it, when we talk about, Shaykh Omar mentioned earlier, being Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala removing, doing tanzih of what they attribute to Him. And what is it that they attribute to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala? That Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala is a party to being

**[16:21]** worshiped alongside others. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has daughters, that there are shuraka', people who share in the worship of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says, تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ السَّمَاوَاتُ السَّبْعُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ ۚ the seven heavens, the earth, and all that it contains, وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِ.

**[16:37]** وَلَٰكِن لَّا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفُورًا What happens? وَلَٰكِن لَّا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ You, يعني, us, we were not created with the capacity to understand the tasbih of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala that all of creation does.

**[16:53]** يعني, it's not a frequency we're tuning into. And still, إِنَّهُ كَانَ حَلِيمًا غَفُورًا Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala is still Halim, lenient, easy with us, oft-forgiving of us, Ghafur. So Allah

**[17:08]** Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, how often does the servant transgress? And we talk about the word Halim. One of the things that I'm sure has been mentioned before, but it's important to mention again, no one is born being forbearing. Nobody wakes up and suddenly understands how to be patient. Patience, as the 'ulama say, إِنَّمَا الْعِلْمُ

**[17:27]** بِالتَّعَلِّمِ So verily knowledge is gained by seeking knowledge. وَإِنَّمَا الْحِلْمُ بِالتَّحَلِّمِ And being forbearing, the only way to learn forbearance is to be forbearing. So what happens? Life throws you a curveball that you're not ready for. Shaykh Mahmoud makes a joke about my fundamentals. I wasn't expecting that. I'm

**[17:43]** forbearing with the Shaykh. I forgive him. He knows I'm an athlete. He knows that I'm good, but I forgive him. يعني, الله أكبر. But the idea that the servant, there are so many things that we've accrued in sin over the course of our lifetimes, that Allah

**[18:00]** سبحانه وتعالى will simply just look away. يعني, that hilm, that leniency the Lord has with us. When you think about this, one of the truisms of life is that you will be wronged and you will wrong others. Right? But if you were to ask people, they're so hardwired to believe that they will

**[18:18]** only ever be wronged. يعني, that person did this to me, this person did that to me, this person, you know, looked at me the wrong way. They cut me off in traffic. We have a running tally of all of the times that we've been wronged. And yet, if we were told at any point ever, Mahmoud, what have

**[18:34]** you done to the fellow believers? What have you done? يعني, who have you wronged? You would come up with a blank. You would say, either you would deny that you've done any wrongdoing. Oh, who me? I've never done anything bad. Or you would minimize your wrongdoing. Yeah, it wasn't that serious. يعني, it wasn't that, uh, it

**[18:51]** wasn't that big of a deal. But the hilm of الله سبحانه وتعالى, the beauty of His hilm is that we don't deserve it. And yet, الله سبحانه وتعالى grants it willingly and openly. What a mercy and an honor for the believer. So in this verse, uh, Shaykh, what are you, what are

**[19:07]** some reflections that you're seeing within this verse in particular? What's the connection between the tasbih of everything around us and Allah's hilm and His being forgiving with us? Like, what's the connection between those two things that you're noticing? I mean, what I'm seeing, SubhanAllah, firstly, you

**[19:22]** know, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala is talking about His creation, firstly wanting you to ponder over it. Um, and then from that, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says, وَإِن مِّن شَيْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ. Ya'ni, these inanimate objects are glorifying Allah, and that's well beyond your capacity. But are you going to take Him as a wakil? Are you going to take Him as someone that you

**[19:39]** trust in His knowledge and trust that what He's saying is true and know that He is able to do all things and has power over all things, you included? Because He said وَمَن فِيهِنَّ when He talks about the ard, right, the earth, everything in it, which we are part of it. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala being Al-Halim,

**[19:55]** because we become neglectful, we forget the greatness of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, His capacity of what He's able to do. And when we forget, that is how we become of those that commit those sins. And SubhanAllah, that's from our nature, being that we are nas. And some scholars say nas comes from nasi, which

**[20:11]** means to be forgetful, neglectful. That's why at times it's very, very important to ponder over His creation. And when you ponder over it, you say SubhanAllah. And that's why, as you mentioned, the scholars say tanzih, which is a confirmation that Allah is far from any likeness of His

**[20:27]** creation. When you look at creation and you say Allahu Akbar, and then you say SubhanAllah, you say Allah is so grand that He could create something like this. And SubhanAllah, the fact that He creates the Grand Canyon creates us. وَفِي أَنفُسِكُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ In your

**[20:42]** own selves, your anatomy and physiology, do you not see? When you realize that, you know that Allah is much greater than that because He is Al-Khaliq, He is the creator of it. So Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, being the one that is forbearing and all-forgiving, even though you know His power and you understand His power, or you

**[20:58]** see the greatness of creation, understanding that it didn't create itself, what are you doing in this life in acknowledgment of the greatness of the One that brought all of this into existence, you included. And that's why it was beautiful when you mentioned, you know, when people ask you about your faults and you'll say, you know,

**[21:14]** don't change the subject. I'm talking about, you know, I'm talking about him or her right now or what they're doing. It's important to look at ourselves always, always, and an easy way to do that. Or one of the, one way here is Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala reminding us of the creation of the heavens and the earth, everything that

**[21:29]** it contains, and the fact that they themselves do tasbih. Why are we not doing that with our tongues? SubhanAllah. You know, we think of something great or think of something that we've done. We say SubhanAllah. Allah is free from any mistake that I've made. Allah is free from

**[21:45]** any blame of anything that I've done or what someone has done to me. Because that's very important as well. We may think, okay, what is going on around the world? How could Allah allow this to happen? SubhanAllah. We say SubhanAllah. When that response is SubhanAllah, Allah is free from any blame. Allah is free from any fault.

**[22:03]** As a matter of fact, it's more of a reason for us to look at ourselves. So I think that's important. That's a reflection that I get from this. So Shaykh, let's pivot. All right. So Allah knows the depth to which everything around us is glorifying Him. He also knows the depth to which people are sinning in a way that others don't. So let's pivot to another verse. Very

**[22:19]** interesting. Verse 17. We were talking about the hilm of Allah, but at some point, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala did destroy nations. How many nations did we destroy after Nuh? And sufficient is Your Lord, as all-aware and

**[22:37]** all-seeing of the sins of the servants. Like, it's almost like, just like you can't understand the tasbih of everything around you, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala is the only one who can understand at what point the threshold of sin has been met to where destruction was warranted upon

**[22:53]** nations. Right? Like, Allah doesn't have to give you an explanation of everything that was done or at what point, like, the trigger is being pulled or whatever it is. But you need to know that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala is خَبِيرًا بَصِيرًا. He's well-aware, all-aware,

**[23:10]** and all-seeing. So how do you think about this verse then in terms of our own personal reflections too? SubhanAllah, Shaykh. I think one of the really interesting things, especially in the moment that we're in, and Shaykh Abdullah alluded to it, and this is not something that only young people suffer from, but typically this is

**[23:25]** attributed to youngsters. They'll come to teachers, to parents, to mashayikh, and they'll say, "This is the worst time in history. How can Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala see the suffering of the Muslims in Gaza, in Sudan, occupied East Turkestan? How can it be that Allah Subhanahu wa

**[23:41]** Ta'ala is both all-knowing and all-powerful, and yet there are evildoers who persist in their wrongdoing?" And one of the things that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has given us as a rejoinder to that is that the Qur'an is full of lessons for those who are looking. When you look at the punishment that was brought upon the people of 'Ad,

**[23:56]** it didn't happen overnight. وَكَأَيِّنْ مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says, "How many communities and villages and towns, ظَالِمَةٍ these sinful, transgressive places, did we allow to kind of do their thing until our punishment seized them?" The idea that Allah's

**[24:15]** omnipotence and His all-powerfulness, or His complete command, His qudra, is in contrast or is somehow in conflict with His ability to deliver justice. Shaykh Omar mentioned, I said that my favorite name currently is Al-Halim. My other favorite name

**[24:31]** at this moment is Al-Muntaqim, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. When that time comes, Allah is سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ He's swift in His punishment, شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ But that punishment, it has to be understood in light of that hilm. So on one hand, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala sees our

**[24:48]** transgressions. We're slow to seek forgiveness. We're sometimes too arrogant to seek forgiveness. And yet Allah oversees, Allah overlooks it because He knows eventually the servant will come back. But there are servants and there are communities who are so heedless

**[25:03]** of this that Allah's justice has to be complete as well, and that when that punishment comes, that 'iqab comes, it was well-earned, delivered on time, and the result of Allah's complete justice. Yeah. So the people of Nuh, He called to them for how many years, Shaykh Omar? Right.

**[25:19]** 950. لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا, day and night. The people of 'Ad were told time and time again, "Do not transgress." These are the hudud of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. This is the line. Don't cross it. And the lines in the sand, once they're crossed, they can't be uncrossed. There are certain lines, once crossed, that there's no

**[25:35]** coming back. And the beauty of that is that the believer, his heart is at rest, knowing that the zalim, the oppressor, and the person being oppressed, they're in this kind of seesaw relationship. يعني, Allah سبحانه وتعالى says in the Qur'an,

**[25:51]** وَتِلْكَ الْأَيَّامُ نُدَاوِلُهَا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ This is the nature of days. On some days, victory; on some defeat. But when that defeat comes to the oppressor, it's total, complete, and that's it. And when victory comes, it's total. And when victory comes, it's total, complete. And يعني, and it's at its appointed

**[26:07]** time. بارك الله فيكم. أحسنت. Shaykh Abdullah, any reflections that you have on connecting this to the context of, you know, the ayat of Surat Al-Isra, our personal lives? I just think it's, سبحان الله, I always remind myself, you know, that we

**[26:23]** forget about more of the sins that we've committed. We forget about more of them. When we ask Allah for forgiveness and we try our best to think of all of them, just know that there's many more that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has overlooked and has forgiven, you know, that we've done individually or done collectively or done to someone else. That person hasn't forgotten about it,

**[26:39]** but you forgot about them. And Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala hasn't forgotten about either case. So in this month of Ramadan, yeah, in this month of Ramadan, it's a huge opportunity. You know, when you see this that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala is all-aware, all-seeing, you know, it really, it really should cause one to just say,

**[26:54]** سبحان الله، أستغفر الله، mention His name continuously. And I think that's a huge risalah, message that I get. That's a big one, man. SubhanAllah, because like you forget the harm you did to someone else and you don't even realize you harmed them because maybe they took it. Like some people are not patient out

**[27:11]** of character. They're patient out of circumstance. Like they don't, they don't have the ability to respond. Like it's like, it's like when the bully says, "I didn't know this bothered you," to someone that's being bullied, right? It's like, "No, like you were devastating me for years." This person tossed and turned every night. Yeah, this person

**[27:27]** tossed and turned every night. They have trauma because of it, right? And like you kind of just went on with your life not realizing what you did to them, right? And that's also something that you have to be seeking forgiveness for and you have to be deeply introspective about, right? As you're kind of reassessing your entire life. Like you don't want to be

**[27:42]** called to account for that on the Day of Judgment. So to the best of your ability, like there is something to say about the believer later on in life making amends, like realizing like, "Hey, I need to make amends." A sibling sometimes, a friend sometimes, right? Sometimes your parents, right? Sometimes like, "Man, like I

**[27:58]** really..." That's why سبحان الله, you know, وَلَا تَنَابَذُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ. Don't give nicknames, bad nicknames. How many times do we see it to where like someone got used to being called a negative nickname and kind of just laughed it off, went with the flow? Mm-hmm. But they really hated it. They really hated

**[28:14]** it. So from the character of Islam is don't even say it in the first place. Don't put it out in the first place, right? Because it might not be that that person will be able to tell you they don't like it, but they really don't like it. So that's part of manifesting, I think, some of these characteristics and verses as well إن شاء الله تعالى.

**[28:31]** جزاكم الله خيرا مشايخ It was great to have you with us, Shaykh. We're looking forward to having you on many, many more Yaqeen programs. We're grateful to have you as part of the team والحمد لله رب العالمين. إن شاء الله تعالى, we'll see you all tomorrow. والسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته.
