**[0:00]** Don't always wait for people to ask you. And that is the difference between your obligations and your ihsan, your excellence. Hold yourselves accountable before you will be held accountable and weigh your deeds in

**[0:16]** this life before they will be weighed. And it reminds us that even when there's that speed bump or that disappointment, not to give up on this noble mission. As-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. Dear brothers and sisters, welcome back to Qur'an 30 for 30.

**[0:37]** Alhamdulillah we're on Juz 29. We want to remind you that it is an odd night of the last ten nights and so of course it is a blessed night, bi'idhnillah ta'ala. And we want to ask you to please insha'Allah consider donating to Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research. We hope bi'idhnillah ta'ala that all the resources that have been made available to

**[0:54]** you and everyone that you know for free have brought you closer to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and have been a major means of changing the narrative of Islam all around the world and the faith journey that each and every single one of us is upon right now. We count on your support.

**[1:09]** We really do need everyone bi'idhnillah to step up. So even if you donated before and it's going to be a small amount insha'Allah ta'ala tonight. Tonight let's go hard bi'idhnillah ta'ala. So please click the link below insha'Allah ta'ala and donate. We have a very special episode alhamdulillah we have with us Dr. Mohamed AbuTaleb.

**[1:24]** Hayyakallah Dr. Muhammad how are you? Alhamdulillah. Wonderful to be with you may Allah accept all your good deeds insha'Allah and everyone that's listening. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala bless you. Shaykh I remember you probably had one of the oldest courses on doubt. Before Yaqeen you had shattering doubt right? That's correct.

**[1:40]** Alhamdulillah. We had a class on shattering doubt so Yaqeen is for you and you are for Yaqeen. Alhamdulillah. Yaqeen is a special place in our hearts. Barakallah fi'kum Dr. Muhammad. May Allah bless you and increase you in your da'wah and for having the foresight to see I think that for a lot of people you know when there was still a lot of content generation

**[1:58]** on the things that were popular for people to follow you had the foresight alhamdulillah to sort of jump in. I remember seeing that course and saying subhanallah like it really is about time that we start tackling those issues. I just want to ask you for a quick personal story maybe about how you've seen someone

**[2:15]** who came back to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala through the Quran who had doubts and came back to Allah through the Quran. Is there anything that comes to your mind? Something I experienced growing up in the Washington DC area is the recognition that while community is important for everyone no one ever outgrows it that especially for

**[2:32]** those coming of age in this country and navigating all the challenges of the modern world that this journey came down to nothing less than holding on to and enhancing or even losing the deen. One of the hardest things I saw was people that are dear to me and I love and I respect

**[2:49]** and we wish goodness for others as we wish for ourselves and our families that would just go through those difficult times and ask questions. But one of the most remarkable experiences I had was in the nights after you know in the area in the colleges in the town we were living in we would have long conversations

**[3:08]** about science and philosophy and there were these questions that were being raised that were really doubting a lot of the verses and unsure and a lot of tension in those conversations but there was a lot of love in that room. Those conversations in and there we each went our own direction but years later I heard

**[3:26]** that that person through the Quran had not only found Islam they were connecting others and I was like what happened and it's a long story but what was remarkable I think was the sincerity of the journey that in asking those questions that person wasn't asking

**[3:43]** to show off or to win an argument and they went on to learn from others. I had long lost touch with them and then when we reconnected I realized they had created a space for others to also journey through the Quran and may Allah preserve his faith and ours and allow us all to be vehicles of goodness to others.

**[3:59]** Barakallah fi'k beautiful and subhanAllah it actually ties into the lesson that I'll give quickly bi'idhnillah ta'ala. My lesson is don't wait for people to ask you for help but a lot of times we think of this only financially and there are a lot of people that are looking for help in terms

**[4:15]** of advice, looking for help spiritually, looking for a way to come to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so don't always ask for people or don't always wait for people to ask you and that is the difference between your obligations and your ihsan, your excellence and Allah

**[4:31]** subhanahu wa ta'ala says in Surah Al-Ma'arij here, وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَعْلُومٌ لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ verses 24 and 25 that those who spend of their wealth based upon an established right,

**[4:46]** حقٌّ معلوم للسائلِ والمحروم for the one that asks and for the one who is forbidden from asking. In Surah Al-Dhariyat Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in verse 19, وَفِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ and in their wealth there is a right for the one who asks and for the one who is forbidden

**[5:06]** from asking. The difference between Al-Ma'arij and Al-Dhariyat is simply this word, معلوم, a well-known or established right. The scholars distinguish between the two. Some of them say that the first one is referring to the obligatory zakat, right?

**[5:24]** So there is an established right of 2.5% and this is what you have to give. The second one is referring to all voluntary sadaqah. Some of them said the first one is referring to the established obligations with those that are obviously exposed to you.

**[5:40]** The others say that the second is referring to those that you look for that need help. The point is that there are a lot of people in your community that cannot ask or are too shy to ask and that's not just financial.

**[5:56]** Ihsan is to look for ways to please Allah where other people are not looking. So we think about Ihsan, تَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ كَانَكَ تَرَىٰ that you worship Allah as if you can see Him and when you can't see Him then you know that He sees you. There is also this element, part of that Ihsan is I'm looking at places that other people

**[6:15]** are not looking at because I know that Allah is looking there. And so that hadith Qudsi of like had you known, had you visited that sick person, had you gone to that person that was in need, you would have found Allah there, you would have found His reward there.

**[6:32]** To paraphrase that long hadith Qudsi, the point is that these are your opportunities, this is your Jannah. The more that you have to be asked to attain your Jannah, the more that should tell you about your pursuit, lacking of Jannah in the first place.

**[6:48]** Go look for those ways to please Allah, go look for those people that need help, go look for those people that could use some financial help, go look for those people that are forbidden for various reasons, even if it's self-imposed, even if it's an imagined insecurity, go look

**[7:04]** for those people and help them because you want Allah to see you in that process and those people often feel unseen. So look for those people and seek to help them in any way that you can. It's so profound Shaykh Omar that you know we're talking about seeking out those opportunities

**[7:22]** and not being concerned with whether people are looking, right, or that immediate credit. We're all human beings, we're all impacted by culture. So sometimes growing up in a place where there's a lot of spotlights, a lot of attention, a lot of work gets the storytelling, it's so profound that we re-center on the ayah that

**[7:38]** you shared with us and seek out those opportunities before they come to us and without even expecting anybody to ask it of us. Always know that it could easily be you at any moment. Never assume, you know, when a person's in a situation, know that that could easily be me and I don't know what brought them there.

**[7:56]** What's most important is that I give what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given for me and I always remember when I was in Medina, I always use this example. When I was in Medina, I was at a gas station and this girl knocks on the door, young girl knocks on the door, no shoes on, her hair is disheveled and her eyebrows are literally

**[8:14]** like this, right, pull the window down. And she says, I'll give you what Allah has given you. I was like, what am I supposed to do? She said, give me what Allah has given you. I'm like, wow. You know, it's a little girl, but it's like, you know, it just reminded me just from those

**[8:29]** words that she said, it reminded me that, you know, that I'm going to be asked if I reject this girl for no real reason that's sufficient for my connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and how I want to show that by giving what Allah has given, giving from what Allah

**[8:45]** has given me to someone that needs it, because there is a day that we will go in front of him. And there's a day that every single situation and everything that we've, we've, we faced and what we've done will be in front of us. And just thinking about that should serve as a motivation to do more good and should

**[9:04]** serve as a motivation to leave off that, which is evil, those vices that we have to try to minimize and be in the light and ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's help for that. Because there is that day as Allah terms it, is yawmin thaqeelah. And that's the lesson that I want to talk about is don't take the heavy day lightly.

**[9:21]** Don't take the heavy day lightly. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala basically talks about those that in this particular ayah, of those that desire things hurriedly and in the process, they neglect that day that they will stand in front of him, yawmin thaqeelah. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the chapter of Al-Insan, verse number 27,

And al-'ajila is that which comes hurriedly or comes quickly. Verily they love that of this world and that is hastily obtainable and are oblivious of

**[9:58]** the burdensome day ahead of them. SubhanAllah, you know, how many of us, our vehicles start with the push of a button. We get food by the push of a button. We can order something with the push of a button or sliding and it immediately comes to our door. And if there's any glitch, five seconds, 10 seconds, internet is not working, you know,

**[10:19]** you may see a different side of us. We want things quickly. We want things now. It's the instant gratification. And once that instant gratification is compromised to where we have to wait, we can be displeased with that situation, which can sometimes show displeasure with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

**[10:36]** from the aspect of the qadr and predestination. But what happens in the process of seeking those things hurriedly? وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَاءَهُمْ يَوْمًا ثَقِيلًا And yatharoon means that they just, it's to the back of you. We don't think about it. You know, it's something that's totally behind us.

**[10:52]** It's disregarded. It's not something that we consider in our decisions when we want these things hurriedly. And one could even look at the concept of hedonism, of just living your life as you please and doing whatever you wish and not thinking or taking into consideration the

**[11:07]** aspect of accountability. Because when one has this level of accountability, it brings a level of responsibility that I'm responsible for the things that I want, the things that I do. So those things that we desire, we have to hold ourselves accountable. And as you know, Ibn Khattab, as many of us know the statement that he hold yourselves

**[11:25]** accountable before you be held accountable. It's in this life because there will be a day. وَزِنُوا أَعْمَالَكُمْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُوزَنُوا Hold yourselves accountable before you'll be held accountable and weigh your deeds in this life before they will be weighed. So this is something that's important for the Muslim.

**[11:40]** When we look at the pillars of Iman and believing in the day of judgment, that there is a day that we will stand in front of him. Do not allow those impulses or those impulses to turn into an action that can compromise your wellness in the next life.

**[11:56]** Because when we constantly think about this life and what we can attain, sometimes Shaytan can trick us into not thinking about, okay, what are the results of this and the consequences of this action, the consequences of wanting this immediate pleasure and not thinking about what that can ultimately lead to. So in this month of Ramadan, particularly in these last 10 nights, and this night we

**[12:14]** have to realize, you know, and even in an i'tikaf or waiting for this day of Eid, or even looking at the 28 days that have passed, it's always important to never forget when I was sitting in Mecca in the i'tikaf and we're listening to Shaykh Murthi Amin, and

**[12:31]** this was his last year, SubhanAllah, and I'm just hearing him and I'm thinking, SubhanAllah, I never would have thought that I would just be able to eat dates and yogurt for 10 days, you know, at a portion of a day. But everyone looking at the month of Ramadan, just saying that it is possible for me to fast sun up to sun down.

**[12:46]** And it's possible from the aspect of patience, patience from food, patience from fulfilling that desire of consuming this and not even thinking about those that may be poor and denying someone. So this Eid is beautiful in regards to remembering that day that there will be a day that we

**[13:03]** will have to answer for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, and that should reflect on what we do in this life. Shaykh, you mentioned this burdensome day, a weighty day, and I think about how Allah gives us experiences in life where something is easy and quickly attainable, but there's

**[13:19]** something much, much more valuable, much, much more important. A lot of us have been through many of these experiences. The first one that came to my mind is, you know, if somebody's trying to pursue a fitness goal, and I know I shouldn't be speaking about fitness in front of the expert. Am I the expert or should I?

**[13:38]** But you imagine, if you go and put on all that effort on that first day, and then you step on the scale the next day, and you don't see any results and you give up. No one's ever gotten results in that time frame. You have to stay the course. Or mashallah, you know, those that have been blessed to have degrees or raise children,

**[13:56]** any worthwhile pursuit of dunya takes time. And sometimes when you think about that, how if I just pursued the enjoyment now, then I'm not going to have something valuable of dunya, health, fitness, education, job, just

**[14:11]** for the dunya. And imagine now the tragedy of going for the 'ajila, what's right in front of me, and losing something that's infinitely more. That burdensome and weighty day. I think about that. I think those experiences can help us understand that investing for our akhira is the greatest

**[14:29]** priority of our life. And so my lesson comes from Surah Nuh, don't give up despite the disappointments. Prophet Nuh's story is incredible, and it comes in multiple places in the Quran, but zooming in on this verse, and this is verse number 21 of the surah that bears his name,

**[14:46]** Surah Nuh, the chapter of Noah. The meaning of the verse, and Noah said, Oh my Lord, they have disobeyed and rejected me,

**[15:07]** and followed those whose wealth and children will not avail them whatsoever, and they have plotted a great plot. In this set of two ayat, Nuh (عليه السلام) complains to Allah ﷻ, not about Allah, not about the life he's living, but he pours out his heart to Allah ﷻ,

**[15:26]** and imagine the pursuit of all of these, not a few years or short period, but hundreds upon hundreds, 950 years, he's sharing his message, and the people, it's not just that they're turning him away, they are rejecting the message of Allah and following those that don't have their best

**[15:43]** interest at heart. They're following those that are not even helping themselves and are knowingly misleading others. So you can't pass this ayah except that that emotion wells up in your heart, and you feel his true care and compassion. You can't invite someone that you

**[16:00]** don't love and wish goodness for, and he wishes goodness for them, but he's looking at these people who have been affected by those unrepentant wrongdoers, by those people that don't care, that are misleading themselves and misleading others. When I think about this and thinking about this message, don't give up despite the disappointments, it weighs on my heart that when

**[16:21]** we reflect on the narration that describes a scene of the Day of Judgment, that the Prophet ﷺ will come with many followers, his ummah, and Prophet Musa (عليه السلام) will come with many, but can you imagine there are people here, I'm included, that have more people in their classroom than

**[16:40]** prophets had followers after their whole message. There are people here that have more people listening to their teaching, or in their youth group, or in their mentorship, they have more results in front of them of goodness than prophets will have followers on the Day of Judgment. And

**[16:56]** that really, for me, it puts things into perspective, because we know the prophets, they're our role models, they're the best of creation, and it reminds us that even when there's that speed bump or that disappointment, not to give up on this noble mission. So as we meet the end of Ramadan, there's so much to celebrate and thank Allah ﷻ for, the

**[17:15]** prayer, the prayers that we've established, our dua, our charity, the good, and may Allah accept our repentance and forgive us all of our sins. But also, each of us has to face hardship in this life, and sometimes that will mean we invest effort into something where we don't see

**[17:31]** the results immediately, or sometimes not even in our lifetime. So it might be that we're meeting the end of Ramadan with a loved one in our family that we wish goodness for, but they're going through a hard time, or maybe they've strayed from the Book of Allah ﷻ. There might be a cause that we've been working for, and advocating for social justice, and advocating for the vulnerable,

**[17:50]** and we know it's the right thing to do, but we're just disappointed that sometimes people should know better. There's a lot of naysayers, a lot of roadblocks, and I think about this verse of Prophet Nuh, where he was comfortable, and we can pour out our hearts with Allah ﷻ, as Prophet Nuh

**[18:06]** did. He was exploring those emotions, and disappointment was in the room, but he wasn't disappointed in the message or the mission. It was from a place of care and compassion for those that he loved, and he didn't give up. And something incredible about his mission, Allah gives of this

**[18:22]** dunya in different ways to whom he will. On earth was one of the greatest human beings to ever walk the face of the planet, one of ulul azmi min al-rusul, one of those prophets and messengers with extremely firm resolve. But actually, more people would celebrate and be inspired by his

**[18:39]** story that would come after him, than were celebrating his da'wah while he was alive. So the results were there, his story was kept, and he already had that status with Allah, but in his lifetime, all the good that he saw, actually there was immeasurably more. I mean today, literally,

**[18:58]** more than a billion people celebrate his legacy, are inspired by him, want to follow in his legacy, but in that moment, in order to get to that accomplishment, and to deal with the disappointment of these people that were following the wrong influence, he had to deal with the fact that

**[19:13]** that disappointed entered his own house, where his wife and one of his sons were not following the path of Allah ﷻ. And so for every worthwhile cause, I ask Allah to give us that vision that he gave Prophet Nuh, that we continue to persevere on the good work, on the proper course,

**[19:31]** seeking the pleasure of Allah ﷻ, even when those results are not right in front of us. You know, if you like mathematically take it according to some of the aqwal of the mufassirun, some of the sayings of the mufassirun, Nuh had about 80 followers in 950 years, that's less than a shahada a decade.

**[19:47]** Imagine if you were measuring this by numbers, right? Like how demoralizing that can be, less than one person embracing you a decade. And subhanAllah, on the day of judgment, how many Nuhs is Nuh (عليه السلام) going to meet? When the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ stands up and testifies

**[20:05]** on his behalf, how many of those Muslims are named Nuh? Nuh, meet all the Nuhs who followed Muhammad ﷺ, and they're saying, and the Nuh (عليه السلام), that Nuh (عليه السلام) did his balagha, he gave his message,

**[20:21]** he did his job, subhanAllah. And that's where the true, that's where true celebration comes, that's where it all matters. So, it's interesting because all of those people, just to connect it back to what Shaykh Abdullah was saying, all of those people, Nuh (عليه السلام) was trying to warn them of yawmin thaqeela, of a heavy day. It's a heavy day, for sure,

**[20:39]** but for Nuh (عليه السلام), imagine the relief when he sees all of these people now testifying on his behalf, and imagine how much heavier, it's heavy, it's a heavy day, imagine how much heavier it is for those people who treated Nuh (عليه السلام) like a burden. They did this, get off me, get away. Right,

**[20:57]** they treated Nuh like the burden, and Nuh (عليه السلام) was trying to lighten their burden by the permission of Allah ﷻ, so beautiful reflections, may Allah ﷻ bless you and reward you for that. You know, when looking at Nuh (عليه السلام), persistence and patience, tying into the verse, yuhibbuna l-'ajila, there's people that just love their, you know, this life to come quickly,

**[21:17]** and they're not patient and persistent, even in the face of adversity, or the face of istihza', because istihza' meaning people making fun of you, or people mocking you, or ridiculing you. I mean, just make that mathematical equation that you just mentioned, you know, you think about it, and in hindsight, it's like, okay, no one's listening to me. Sometimes you'll think, am I

**[21:34]** right, am I on the right path, which can sometimes bring doubt, you know, and that's why the environment is very, very important, but most importantly, that trust in Allah ﷻ, which starts by knowing Him and establishing that relationship, and what better time to do that than in these nights?

**[21:50]** What better time to do that than to have an intimate time with Him, to be alone with Allah ﷻ, and to just open yourself and being vulnerable with Him. What that will do in the face of any type of adversity is profound, especially in the life of Nuh (عليه السلام). And you can't always trace it in terms of material gains, right? You really have to be able to see

**[22:10]** the qualitative over the quantitative. You have to see that at the end of the day, it's like in Ramadan, subhanAllah, it's not... I know that a lot of people are probably disappointed by how many pages of Quran they read or didn't read, khatms, right? Look, at the end of the day,

**[22:26]** it's not the quantity, it's the quality, and that's what's going to count. So whether we're talking about sadaqah as we did in the beginning, where it may be that some people will give less sadaqah, but it will mean more to Allah ﷻ and end up with more reward, or you have less followers, right? At the end of the day, less can be more if it is for the sake of Allah ﷻ.

**[22:46]** We ask Allah ﷻ to always make what we do for His sake. Allahumma ameen. And insha'Allah, we encourage everyone to push themselves, push themselves hard, treat every moment, right? Like it's your most important moment. And, you know, the last thing that I'll say here is

**[23:03]** that we talk about yawmin thaqeela, a heavy day. The most burdensome night, physically speaking, right, is Laylatul Qadr, or the last two nights as a whole for the Muslim, right? You push yourself more on these nights than any other nights of the year. But if you catch it, if you catch it,

**[23:19]** right, this is a lifetime of ease for you, an eternity of ease for you, and we ask Allah ﷻ to make that the case for all of us. Allahumma ameen. JazakAllah khair, Dr. AbuTaleb, for joining us. It was a pleasure to have you. May Allah ﷻ bless you and accept from you. May Allah ﷻ reward you for your da'wah and increase you. Allahumma ameen. JazakAllah khair and everyone for tuning in. Insha'Allah ta'ala

**[23:37]** we'll see you all tomorrow. Wassalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
