His peace in the midst of anguish serves as a lesson in how trusting God in difficult times not only bolsters faith and character, but testifies to a quality... ## Transcript **[0:00]** The Prophet Muhammad, salallahu alayhi wasalam, showed exemplary resilience, endurance, and optimism throughout his difficult life. You could argue that his life was an avalanche of hardships and adversities. **[0:15]** And he also was not someone who was some stoic, someone who was indifferent to life's ups and downs, never happy, never sad. No, this was someone who was not emotionally detached. This was someone whose pains would spill his tears. And yet at the same time, his unique trust in God **[0:34]** allowed him to live a life of such peace and such contentment that we cannot find really in any other human being. Shouldn't we consider it miraculous that the Prophet, salallahu alayhi wasalam, **[0:51]** was able to rise from this abyss of negativity and not just survive, but to be a source of inspiration for countless human beings throughout human history? Only God can do that. The same way that only God can bring the living **[1:07]** out of the dead, and only God can cause a rock to spring forth with water, and only God can nourish a rose in the middle of the desert. It was only God that kept him smiling throughout, playing with his grandchildren, **[1:22]** standing firm upon his principles, lifting the spirits of people that suffered so much less than him. Only God could have kept that heart of his grateful at a time when people couldn't even be patient. And only God could have made his heart merciful **[1:41]** at a time when people couldn't even be just. Even in the darkest hours, all that compounded anguish and distress never broke the Prophet's perseverance, peace and blessings be upon him. In a world that seemed hopeless, **[1:57]** what he saw with his heart would override the apparent hopelessness he would see with his eyes. He was always confident in Allah's promise, always trusting in his decree. You know, in one incident, they were tracked, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, by mercenaries **[2:14]** to a cave, him and Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, are there, and the mercenaries just had to bend down and nothing would have stopped them from seeing and capturing the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq. **[2:29]** And yet in that unnerving moment, he calmed Abu Bakr and said, what is your worry? What is your assumption? So long as we are two, but Allah is our third, do not grieve, Allah is with us. You know, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam **[2:46]** recited verses from the Quran years later about this incident, when Allah said, if you support the Messenger of Allah or not, know that Allah has already supported him. On that day, when he was turned into a refugee, **[3:01]** turned into a fugitive, chased out of Mecca, and there was two of them in the cave, and he said to his companion, at a time that seemed apparently hopeless, right? He said to his companion, do not grieve. You know, for argument's sake, had the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam **[3:17]** made up this incident after the fact, made up this verse and taught it to his followers, would Abu Bakr As-Siddiq admire him even after his death Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam? Until his very last breaths, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq considered him the most inspirational, **[3:35]** most admirable, the embodiment of integrity, his Prophet and ours, the Messenger Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. So it was incidents like these, when despair would penetrate the hearts of the firmest souls, **[3:50]** that the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam showed the supreme faith and conviction he had in God. This is just like what the Quran says about Moses, by the way. When they got to the sea and everyone lost hope, Moses said, no, Allah is with us, **[4:06]** he will show us a way, he will save us as he promised from Pharaoh and his army. This is the resilience and the trust in God of the Prophets.
