**[0:00]** And so I find a problem with the Qur'an in that it confirms the Torah and the Gospel, and it tells me as a Christian in chapter 5 verse 46 and 47 to judge by the Gospel.

**[0:15]** However, Pierce, when I judge the Qur'an by the Gospel, I find that the Qur'an does not understand what the Gospel is or says. And ultimately I would say, if the Qur'an is true, and I need to take it seriously to not be one of the defiantly disobedient, as it says, and I judge the Gospel, by using the Gospel, I judge the Qur'an, I find that the Qur'an is hugely problematic.

**[0:36]** We claim as Muslims that the Bible and the other scriptures are changed and corrupted, and yet how in the Qur'an Allah says, mostly in Surah Al-Ma'idah, confirming how the Qur'an confirms and tells the people of the book to implement what they have and follow what was sent down.

**[0:54]** First of all, you have to understand the context in which Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is criticizing the people of the book, the Christians and the Jews, for not following what has been sent down. He is criticizing them in the context of them not following the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ),

**[1:10]** and not following the Qur'an, and not accepting Islam, due to the excuse that they are holding on to some other previous revelation or this other identity that they have, which Allah also talks about in Surah Ali 'Imran, and Allah also details this in Surah Al-Baqarah.

**[1:27]** They only want to follow, rather, what was revealed to them, and then Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala in Surah Al-Ma'idah calls them out on their hypocrisy, saying, you don't even follow what was supposedly revealed to you. The things that we sent down to you, you lost it. If you go to the beginning of Surah Al-Ma'idah, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says,

**[1:42]** وَنَسُوا حَظًّا مِّمَّا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ He says of the Jews, he says that they forgot a good piece of what they were reminded of, reminded of in the sense of sent revelation for. And then he talks about the Christians, and Allah changes the particle from و to ف. His, فَنَسُوا حَظًّا مِّمَّا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ

**[1:58]** And the ulama, they say that one of the interpretations is that ف indicates that something happened immediately. That almost immediately after being reminded, meaning they were sent a prophet and sent revelation, they forgot a good portion of it. That this entire conversation that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala opens about the people of the book is about their neglect of the revelation that was sent to them.

**[2:23]** And their lack of sincerity. Allah essentially says that if you are sincere, people of the book, you will follow Islam. If you are a sincere seeker of truth, you will follow the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). You will follow the Qur'an.

**[2:39]** And the problem is, many of you aren't sincere. And how am I going to prove to you that you're not sincere? I'm going to prove to you that you're not sincere because you don't even follow what you have. And that is something that is an observable fact. And there are other points in the Qur'an where Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says,

**[2:56]** and look, you prefer the rulings, like in one instance Allah says that the people of the book prefer the rulings of the idolaters to the rulings of Islam. And you find that people are willing to be more accepting of crystals and manifesting and all this other nonsense than they are of Islam.

**[3:13]** And you find Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala also saying in the Qur'an that the people of the book would approach the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) during his life, asking him for a ruling, hoping that the ruling would be more lenient than the one that was in their book. And that if the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) gave them a ruling that was more lenient, then they would follow that selectively.

**[3:33]** But if it was less lenient, then they would go back and follow the one in their book. So this is the general context in which Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is calling out the people of the book on their hypocrisy. What is the proper orientation that one has to faith, and to revelation, and to prophethood?

**[3:48]** That when the truth from Allah comes, the truth from God comes, you follow it. You don't get hung up on your identity, you don't get hung up on, well, this was sent before. No, when God sends revelation, you follow it. That's what Allah wants you to understand. And he's demonstrating the hypocrisy and the insincerity of some of the people among the Christians and the Jews,

**[4:08]** by claiming that they're going to stick so scrupulously to what they've been sent before. That's why they're not going to follow Muhammad. That's why they're not going to follow the Prophet (ﷺ). That's why they're not going to follow the Qur'an, because we love, you know, what we were sent, and our prophet, and our books.

**[4:23]** And then you don't even follow it. That's why Allah says, if you were sincere, you would have followed that. If you were sincere, you would have implemented that. If you were sincere, you would have taken care of it, and you wouldn't have lost it. Since you don't really follow it, first of all.

**[4:40]** Second of all, since you lost it, the only option left is to follow God's guidance wherever it comes, and it came to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), and through the Qur'an.
