Soon the group will be defeated and they will flee with their backs turned. Bismillah wal-hamdulillah was-salatu was-salamu 'ala rasulillah wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wa man wala. Dear brothers and sisters, as many of us have been seeing the news about the claim that the Palestinians will be displaced from Gaza, **[0:22]** that their land will be turned into prime real estate and that the people should just go because why would they want to stay in such a scenario? And essentially, hopelessness and despair will continue to be manufactured until the people leave voluntarily and they occupy new homes while others come and illegally steal the rest of their land. **[0:46]** I know that many of us saw that and probably thought to ourselves, subhanAllah, the doors are closing. It's becoming tougher for the people. And what are the next few years going to look like? And I wanted to actually take us back to the seerah of the Prophet (ﷺ) because this is a verse from the Qur'an that has truly come to life in the last few weeks in particular **[1:11]** when we saw the people returning to their destroyed homes in the north. And I want to emphasize that the images of the people returning home was not that they were returning to complete structures. They were returning to destroyed homes where many of them would find the remains of their loved ones under the rubble and merely moved from tent to tent and have been through all sorts of unspeakable trauma. **[1:37]** Now you would think with the joy that we witnessed, with the way that we saw the people celebrating, that they had just reclaimed everything that was taken from them. But subhanAllah, no one can understand the people of Gaza except for the people of Iman, except for the people of faith because the people of Gaza are the epitome of the people of Iman. **[1:57]** And so our enemies don't understand us. And they don't understand why people would want to return to this type of rubble. They don't understand why the unlivable conditions of Gaza have not yet run the people of Gaza out. And I could not stop thinking about this verse. **[2:14]** This verse is one of the most profound verses to describe the conditions that we see today especially with the sinister proposals that are being put forward by our enemies. And I want to talk about how it landed with the sahaba because this is one of the earliest verses that was revealed in the Qur'an. **[2:32]** This is not a later verse in the Qur'an. Imagine being in Mecca and you cannot even pray publicly without being beaten. People are being killed. People cannot proclaim Allah's greatness in the streets. And there is no sign of being able to overcome the monstrosity of what Mecca has put forward in any way through the likes of Abu Lahab and Abu Jahl. **[2:58]** And this verse comes down. And there is a psychological component to it as well. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala reveals early on in Mecca that soon their group will flee. وَيُوَلُّونَ الدُّبُرَ And they will flee away with their backs turned in defeat. **[3:14]** And we haven't even gotten to hijrah yet. We haven't even gotten to the migration of Medina yet. What does this mean and what is this referring to? And just like as we have passed through the discussions of al-Isra, al-Mi'raj and the miracle of the Prophet (ﷺ) being taken from Mecca to Jerusalem to the heavens and back. **[3:32]** And the way that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala prophesies through Surah Ar-Rum, غُلِبَتِ الرُّومُ فِي أَدْنَى الْأَرْضِ وَهُم مِّن بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ فِي بِضْعِ سِنِينَ The prophecy of the Romans coming back to defeat the Persians, this too was a remarkable prophecy. **[3:48]** Here is how it landed with the companions of the Prophet (ﷺ). Imagine if shortly after the revelation of this verse, some of the companions take to Abyssinia, fleeing from the persecution of Mecca, leaving behind their homes with their belongings **[4:06]** so that they can get away from the torture of the people of Mecca towards them. Imagine how they were thinking about these verses as they were making Hijrah to Abyssinia. fleeing from persecution and indeed leaving behind their homes, many of which were stolen and their belongings stolen by Quraysh. **[4:26]** Then imagine that Hijrah comes and not only is it a small group of people, but the Muslims are collectively fleeing from Mecca with their backs turned towards Mecca, with their belongings or whatever they could carry on their shoulders, some of them fleeing in a situation in which they are marked for death, **[4:44]** so they cannot be seen at the time of their Hijrah. Of course, at the head of that list is Muhammad (ﷺ), who is a marked man for death and he leaves behind his home, (ﷺ). He leaves behind his belongings and he makes his way to Medina. **[5:00]** This verse is in their hearts, سَيُهْزَمُ الْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ الدُّبُرَ that one day their group will be defeated and they will flee away with their backs turned. SubhanAllah, what a test of tawakkul, what a test of trust, what a test of iman to have this verse in your Qur'an that you recite **[5:19]** while you are living the conditions that it seems to indicate where you are fleeing. And indeed, in Mecca, the homes of the believers were stolen. Their goods were stolen. SubhanAllah, in fact, not to go too much into detail, but when Fath Mecca happens, when the conquest of Mecca happens, **[5:37]** there is a discussion about those homes that were now occupied by some of those who stole them from the Muslims. And what if they now became Muslim too, including those who inhabited the house of the Prophet (ﷺ). What do we do with the situation in this era of forgiveness and mercy, **[5:56]** but also victory and the return of the oppressed to their lands? So it's an interesting conundrum that they would face at that time, but we're still early on in the hijrah. Imagine being amongst the Muslims that fled Mecca and you have left behind everything and you still have this verse. **[6:13]** So when does the prophecy come true? In fact, when did they even realize it was a prophecy? Umar bin al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه), he says that I used to wonder about this verse. What jama' is Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala talking about? What group of people is Allah talking about? **[6:29]** We are the ones who are forced to flee from Mecca, first to Abyssinia and then to Al-Madinah. Who is this speaking about? And then he said, I realized it on the day of Badr, that this is the moment that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala was talking about. You see, there's a famous du'a of the Prophet (ﷺ) **[6:46]** where he is saying before the night of Badr, oh Allah, if you let this group of people die, then you will not be worshipped on the face of the earth. But before that, the Prophet (ﷺ) was appealing specifically to what, **[7:01]** oh Allah, give me what you have promised me. ma wa'adtani, what you have promised me. And here is where it all comes to fruition. Umar (رضي الله عنه) says, I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) on the day of Badr, **[7:17]** moving forward in the ranks because our messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was not someone who would avoid the battlefield and send others to fight in his place. Rather the Prophet (ﷺ) himself, even in the heat of battle, **[7:33]** when others would want to hide behind him, the messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was plunging forward. And he said, I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) plunging forward on the day of Badr. And he was reciting this verse over and over and over again. **[7:48]** SubhanAllah. And indeed he said, I saw the meaning of that ayah because I saw Quraish turning their backs, fleeing away from the battlefield in Badr. And I thought to myself, this is the promise of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala **[8:03]** as it has come true. Abdullah ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنهما), he says that between the revelation of this verse and between the battle of Badr was seven years. And SubhanAllah, you can think about what seven years looks like **[8:20]** under that type of persecution. What seven years looks like under two or three hijras, if you consider both hijras to Abyssinia and then the hijra to Medina. After the murder of the likes of Sumayya (رضي الله عنها) **[8:35]** and the family of Yasir (رضي الله عنه). After the boycott of Banu Hashim, Banu Mutalib and the death of Khadijah (رضي الله عنها). After Ta'if, Al-Aam al-Huzn, the year of grief with the messenger of Allah **[8:50]** (ﷺ). All of this happens within seven years and Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala's promise came true and the believers got to see that on the day of Badr. On top of that, Abu Jahl, who stole some of the homes of the believers. **[9:07]** He was the Fir'aun of this Ummah, remember? He was the Fir'aun of this Ummah, who stole some of the homes and the properties of the believers in Mecca as he ran them out. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala decreed that Abu Jahl would be killed outside of Mecca **[9:22]** and the Prophet (ﷺ) would come back supreme in Mecca along with the believers who were run out and the many other believers who joined the way of the Prophet (ﷺ). Abu Jahl would die humiliated and alone **[9:37]** and despised and away from the very land that he ran the believers out of. Similar to how Fir'aun did not die in his palace. He did not die in his land. Rather, he died in the seas, drowned by the seas. And if I was to ask anyone, **[9:52]** do you know where the grave of Abu Jahl is today? Who would know? And who would go visit him? And subhanAllah, what a humiliated ending for him. And so I want you to think about now the Prophet (ﷺ) and his companions and what this means today for the people of Gaza. **[10:08]** We might find ourselves in a situation where you have more displacement after more displacement, after more displacement. The difference between the believer in this regard and the enemy is that the believer knows exactly why they are here. And so someone who's on the outside of that **[10:24]** simply does not understand what it is about these people that keeps them coming back. And make no mistake about it, that those who make all of these bold claims about the realty of Gaza and those that make plans about the land of Gaza **[10:40]** will always find that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala will foil their plans and they will live and die humiliated bi-idhnillahi ta'ala with absolutely no claim to our land. And we as believers know that whether it's tomorrow, whether it's after a week, seven days, **[10:55]** or after seven years, Allah Azza wa Jal is always truthful in his promise. I also want you to think about how the very existence of the Palestinian people on their land is a form of striving **[11:11]** for the sake of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. The fact that they remain in these places where their enemies have tried to make their conditions unlivable is in and of itself a miracle. It's in and of itself a sign of resilience for us to admire and for us to express solidarity with them. **[11:27]** And we should rebuff any type of proposal or any type of suggestion, even from other Muslims that says, you know what, why not just go ahead and give it up and let's just build some nice homes for them in Egypt and Jordan. That's not the way that this works. That's not the way that this affair works. **[11:43]** The Prophet (ﷺ) did not simply say, well Alhamdulillah, things are good in Medina. And so we relinquish Mecca. Absolutely not. It was always in the heart and mind of the Prophet (ﷺ) and the hearts and minds of the believers **[11:58]** that what is being built in Medina will go back to Mecca and beyond. And so what has been generated outside of Al-Quds will go back to Al-Quds and beyond, bi-idhnillahi ta'ala. And we must have that same firm belief and that same faith. **[12:13]** So do not be deterred. wa la tahinoo wa la tahzanoo wa antumul a'launa in kuntum mu'mineen Do not be deterred. Do not be saddened. Do not be grieved. You will be victorious so long as you remain believers. **[12:30]** And so whether it is this president or that president, this evildoer or that evildoer, retain your belief, retain your faith, hold fast to the promise of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala grant our brothers and sisters in Gaza and Palestine full victory. **[12:46]** And may Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala allow us to be alongside them. Allahumma ameen. Jazakum Allah Khayran.
