**[0:00]** The Power to Change, based on an article by Nejwa Awad and Sero Sultan. Have you ever been stuck in the cycle of repeating the same mistakes over and over again? Cognitive theory suggests that this is because those are learned responses.

**[0:17]** We have neural pathways in our brains that are reinforced by habit. The theory is in line with the Islamic principle that states that the more you practice anything, the easier it becomes. The more you look at pornography, the easier it becomes.

**[0:34]** The more you lie, the easier it becomes. The more you wake up for tahajjud, the easier it becomes. Because the relevant neural pathways get strengthened every time you repeat a behavior. The Prophet, salallahu alayhi wasalam, was asked about the act most pleasing to Allah.

**[0:54]** He replied, that which is done continuously, even if it is small. Just repeating an action can change our entire lives, for better or for worse. The power to conquer our mistakes and change ourselves for the better

**[1:11]** has already been built into our brains.
