## Transcript
**[0:01]** Are you advising or condemning? Advising others with goodwill and sincerity is a central teaching in Islam. But there is a fine line between advising someone and condemning them. Here is how to tell if your advice is sincere.

**[0:18]** 1. Sincere advice is always intended to benefit the receiver. 2. Sincere advice is always intended to preserve the receiver's reputation as much as possible. 3. Condemnation is announcing someone's faults publicly under the guise of giving advice.

**[0:37]** 4. Condemnation is motivated by hatred and malice. 5. Condemnation is done publicly and not as a last resort, but as a way to shame the receiver. Ibn Rajab describes this as combining an outward display of advice with ugly, forbidden matters.

**[0:58]** The best way to distinguish between sincere advice and condemnation is putting yourself in the receiver's shoes. Ask yourself, would I be pleased if he advised me this way? Will this advice help or push away? Unless it is a last resort, sincere advice is generally given in private, using beautiful speech and in a humble manner.
