Details on Zakat Eligibility:

“According to the fourth declaration of the eighth conference of the Islamic Fiqh Council, it is valid to use zakat for the propagation of Islam and answering misconceptions about it. This position is adopted by a very large number of contemporary scholars. They consider dawah to be included in the category of “fi sabeel-illah” mentioned in the verse of Surat at-Tawbah detailing the deserving recipients of zakat. Since the purpose of Yaqeen Institute is “establishing conviction in the hearts and minds of Muslims, and battling the false notions that underlie Islamophobia and extremism,” it is a legitimate recipient of zakat.”

Dr. Hatem ElHaj,
Scholar, Fatwa Committee of Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America. Dean, Mishkah University

Islam has had generations of Muslims who were on the forefront of contributing to medicine, philosophy, architecture, and governance among other areas. Founded by Sh Omar Suleiman, Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research is an institute aiming to rekindle this tradition. By addressing relevant topics head-on with the help of the foremost experts in Islam, Yaqeen’s initiatives will counter any false narrative that has been forced upon our community by corrupt media outlets. Furthermore, The Institute is a non-profit research initiative that will make all of its content free and accessible. This will allow everyone looking for answers, and those tasked with giving answers, to always have a comprehensive resource readily available to them.

In addition to translating and analyzing classical works on the subject matter, Yaqeen also aims to actively participate in the current day discourse touching on all topics that are related to establishing conviction in the hearts and minds of Muslims, and battling the false notions that underlie Islamophobia and extremism. The institute aims to be the trusted source regarding these topics by creating engaging content in various formats, including journals, papers, articles, surveys, videos, conferences, and curriculum.
